  3. (Col 3:17) And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. (Matt 28:18-20) And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.Amen.

  4. What is…Business? Business is…the social science of managing people to organize and maintain collective productivity toward accomplishing particular creative productive goals, usually to generate revenue. (Wikipedia, online encyclopedia) My simple definition: Businessis…any task performed alone or with others to get something done.(Steve) We should always be in the “Business” of being a Christian! (Col. 3:2) Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (Col. 3:23) And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;

  5. Remember the power and influence that God has on your business. (Psalm 107:23-30) 23 They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters; 24 These see the works of the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. 25 For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof. 26 They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble. 27 They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wits' end. 28Then they cry unto the LORD in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.29 He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still. 30 Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven. No matter what type of business we’re in, a day at workwith the Lord watching over us can have a much more desired outcome.

  6. Let’s think about our Business World as a Christian - Preparation Profit/Growth Organization Communication People

  7. 1. Preparation - for the Business World • (Business World) • Proper appearance • Proper state of mind • Adequate materials/tools • (Christian) • Strong in the Lord • Righteousness, Truth and Spirit • Whole armour of God - Eph 6:10-18 (Eph 6:10-18) 10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

  8. 2. Organization - for the Business World • (Business World) • Manufacturing/Service/Purpose • Management/Workforce/Staffing • Location/Customers/Clients • (Christian) • Preach the gospel - Mk 16:15 • Edify one another - 1Thes 5:8-11 • God/Christ/Church – 1 Cor 11:3 • Whole world - every creature (Mark 16:15) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. (1Th 5:8-11) 8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation. 9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him. 11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do. (1Cor 11:3) But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

  9. 3. People -in the Business World • (Business World) • Co-workers/Customers/Patrons • Chain of command • (Christian) • Potential converts – Matt 5:16 • God/Christ – 1Pet 4:10-11 (Matt 5:16) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. (1Pet 4:10-11) 10 As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. 11 If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

  10. 3. People -in the Business World - (Continued) • (Business World) • Co-workers/Customers/Patrons • Chain of command • Responsibility/Direction • Guidance/Support/Discipline • Compensate/Reward • (Christian) • Potential converts – Matt 5:16 • God/Christ – 1Pet 4:10-11 • Confess Christ – Luke 12:8-9 • Teach/Edify/Discipline – 2Tim 4:2 • Eternal salvation – Mk 16:16 (Luke 12:8-9) 8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God: 9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God. (2Tim 4:2) Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. (Mark 16:16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

  11. 4. Communication -in the Business World • (Business World) • Body language • Verbal/Spoken word • (Christian) • Conduct/Actions – Rom 12:3 • Honest speech – Matt 5:37 (Rom 12:3, 9, 11, 16-17) 3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 9Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; 16Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. 17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. (Matt 5:37) But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

  12. 4. Communication -in the Business World - (Cont) • (Business World) • Body language • Verbal/Spoken word • Written/Electronic documents • Record keeping • (Christian) • Conduct/Actions – Rom 12:3 • Honest speech – Matt 5:37 • Word of God – Jas 1:19-21 • Book of Life – Rev 3:5, (22:12) (Jas 1:19-21) 19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. 21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls. (Rev 3:5) He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. (Rev 22:12) And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

  13. 4. Communication -in the Business World - (Cont) A Poem for our consideration: NeverFoundtheTime I knelt to pray, but not for long;  I had too much to do.  I had to hurry and get to work  For bills would soon be due.  So I knelt and said a hurried prayer,  And jumped up off my knees.  My Christian duty was now done  My soul could rest at ease.  All day long I had no time  To spread a word of cheer.  No time to speak of Christ to friends,  They'd laugh at me I'd fear.  No time, no time, too much to do,  That was my constant cry,  No time to give to souls in need  But at last the time came to die.  I went before the Lord, I came; I stood with downcast eyes.  For in his hands God held a book;  It was the book of life.  God looked into his book and said  "Your name I cannot find.  I once was going to write it down...  But never found the time"  (Anonymous)

  14. 5. Profit/Growth - for the Business World • (Business World) • Finance/Accounting/Expenses • Profit/Benefits • (Christian) • Giving – 1 Cor 16:1-2 • Diligence – Heb 6:10-11 (1Cor 16:1-2) 1 Now concerning the collection for the saints, as I have given order to the churches of Galatia, even so do ye. 2 Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him, that there be no gatherings when I come. (Heb 6:10-11) 10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: 12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

  15. 5. Profit/Growth - for the Business World - (Cont) • (Business World) • Finance/Accounting/Expenses • Profit/Benefits • Investments • Growth/Future Plans • (Christian) • Giving – 1 Cor 16:1-2 • Diligence – Heb 6:10-11 • Invest in heaven – Matt 6:19-21 • Increase/Eternal life - Acts 2:47 (Matt 6:19-21) 19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. (Acts 2:47) Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. and also - (Acts 6:7) And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

  16. Now, how does our Business Worldlook as a Christian? Preparation Profit/Growth Organization Communication People

  17. Example – Taking Christ to the Business World Paul & Timothy – Lydia & Household Baptized – Acts16:11-15 (Acts 16:11-15) 11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis; 12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days. 13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither. 14 And a certain woman named Lydia,a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. 15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

  18. Example – Business of encouraging For our consideration: “QUIET SERMON” A member of a certain church, who previously had been attending services regularly, suddenly stopped coming to church. After a few weeks, the preacher decided to visit. The preacher found the man at home alone, sitting before a blazing fire. Guessing the reason for his preacher's visit, the man welcomed him, led him to a comfortable chair near the fireplace and waited.  The preacher made himself at home but said nothing. In the grave silence, he contemplated the dance of the flames around the burning logs. After some minutes, the preacher took the fire tongs, carefully picked up a brightly burning ember and placed it to one side of the hearth all alone. Then he sat back in his chair, still silent. The host watched all this in quiet contemplation. As the one lone ember's flame flickered and diminished, there was a momentary glow and then its fire was no more. Soon it was cold and lifeless.  The preacher glanced at his watch and realized it was time to leave, he slowly stood up, picked up the cold, dead ember and placed it back in the middle of the fire. Immediately it began to glow, once more with the light and warmth of the burning coals around it.  As the preacher reached the door to leave, his host said with a tear running down his cheek, "Thank you for your visit and for the fiery sermon. I will be back in church next Sunday."  (Anonymous)

  19. (More Scriptural Guidance) – Taking Christ to the Business World (Prov 3:27) Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. (Rom 12:11) Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; (Gal 6:1-7) 1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. 2 Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. 3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. 4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. 5 For every man shall bear his own burden. 6Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.7 Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. (1Thes 4:11) And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; (Luke 6:31) And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.
