  2. Rule of Three

  3. The rule of three: a writing strategyWriting events, characters, titles, or sayings in groups of three. It is easier for the reader to remember info in groups of 3. slogans ("Go, fight, win!") character groupings Events, obstacles, or challenges

  4. Rule of 3 • Example (Title): The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is my favorite book. • Example (Characters):The Three Little Pigs, the Three Blind Mice, the Three Musketeers, Goldilocks and the Three Bears.

  5. Rule of 3 • This can look different/not just one way to use • Example: Sentence Style. • He was tired because he woke up early, ran 3 miles, and had a boring meeting.

  6. Rule of 3 • Example: He searched everywhere. • He searched under the bed, behind the curtains, and around the side of the house for his lost shoe.

  7. Talisman

  8. Talisman • An object believed to have magical powers. • Ring, Charm, Stone, Sword • A talisman can also keep evil away.

  9. Talisman • The main character- • possesses this item • journey to get it • The Villain- • repelled by it • want to steal it • or want to destroy it

  10. Magic helper

  11. Magical Helper • Someone or some creature who comes along to help the main character at one point in the story. • Can be in the entire story, but usually shows up during the conflict. • Has magical powers. • Genie(Aladdin), Fairy Godmother(Cinderella), Tinkerbell (PeterPan)

  12. Think about it:Would Cinderella have ever been able to make it to the ball on time if the Fairy Godmother’s wand hadn’t turned the pumpkin into a coach, her rags into a dress, and the mice into horses? Would Pinocchio have been able to turn into a “real boy” without the blue fairy’s help?Would Aladdin have been able to end up with Jasmine if it hadn’t been for the genie?
