  2. Approval Plan An agreement/tool used between the library and the book vendor for acquiring library materials in an efficient way within specific subject and budgetary limitations

  3. Objectives • To cooperate with faculties to build and maintain their core collections for teaching and research activities • To guide and develop a multidisciplinary library collection

  4. Advantages • Faculties/Centers coordinate with the Library for collection development • Library receives the wanted new titles timely • Library lowers the acquisition costs and simplifies the acquisition procedures

  5. Advantages (II) • Library has the priority in the event of short print-runs • Faculty/Centers and Library will benefit from the bibliographic information of the publishing world offered by the book vendors – latest publishing news, a team of experienced bibliographers, etc.

  6. Implications • An approval plan needs to set aside a certain % of library annual budget to do it • Delivery cost is high at the beginning because of returning inappropriate materials • Faculty members and librarians have to spend time on profile creation and continuing evaluation

  7. Implementation Select Vendor for an Approval Plan Agreement Signed ApprovalLibrary Profile Set Up New Titles Received TIMELY and REGULARLY from vendors Any Unsuitable Titles RETURNED to vendors by Acquisition Librarians

  9. Library Profile • To work closely with all interested parties, including faculties members • To reflect the Library’s Collection Policy Book Subjects Publishers Assigned Budgets Publishing Years Target readers Languages Others

  10. Library Profile Vendors will send their representatives to visit Faculty Members and Library in order to design a Library Profile of Approval Plan in a collaborative way.
