  2. Evidence • Evidence is information that supports or proves a point. Evidence of life would be observations that support or prove that something is alive.

  3. 8 Characteristics of Life • Moves • Responds • Develops • Energy (uses) • Grows • Consumes • Reproduces • Life Span

  4. Organism • Organism- Any living thing- plant, animal, or other • An organism is the most general word used to refer to an independently living thing.

  5. Living • Living-Things are living if they show all the characteristics of life. • Living things are organisms.

  6. Dormant • Things are dormant when they do not show characteristics of life until they are placed in the right environment. Dormant organisms are alive, but inactive.

  7. Dead • Things are dead if they were alive at one time but no longer can do the characteristics of life.

  8. Nonliving • Nonliving materials have never been alive. Fire, rocks, water, wind, pencils, toys, and computers are all nonliving.
