MIG – MIGration of Communication Services to SIP

This proposed BoF aims to ensure service interoperability across heterogeneous networks and evaluate specific services for any interoperability issues. It will document requirements for solutions and outline pros/cons of possible approaches. BCPs, new P-headers, and event packages may be developed to address identified requirements. Changes to SIP specification will be referred to SIP/SIPPING.

  1. MIG – MIGration of Communication Services to SIP A Proposed BoF for IETF67 San Diego

  2. Proposed Scope • To insure service interoperability across heterogeneous networks • Evaluate the interoperability of specific services to identify issues, clearly describe the identified service interoperability problems, document requirements for solutions to these issues, and outline the pros / cons of possible approaches to satisfy these requirements. • Where appropriate, Best Current Practices (BCP), new P-headers, or new event packages would be developed to address the requirements identified by this group. • Where changes to the core SIP specification are implied, this will be referred to SIP/SIPPING for development of any new protocol elements described in Change Policy for SIP (RFC 3427).

  3. Proposed Outputs • BCPs • Requirements • Call/Session Flows • Gap analysis • New Event packages • P-Headers

  4. How to Participate • The proposed charter can be found at www.sip-voip.org/charter.html • We have also started a mail list which you can register at www.sip-voip.org

  5. Next Steps • Major scope of San Diego BOF: • Identify a detailed list of services for analysis of interoperability in heterogeneous network(s). • Potential Services: • CCBS/CCNR • MCID • AoC • Shared line appearance • Busy Line Verify/Busy Line Interrupt • Directory Assistance • Revisit Group Name
