  3. The Teaching Quality Enhancement Fund (TQEF) • Subject strand • Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL) • Teaching and Learning Technology Programme (TLTP) • Learning and Teaching Support Network: 24 Subject Centres and Generic Centre

  4. Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL) • 1996: established to stimulate developments in teaching and learning • To encourage the dissemination of best practice • To establish a clear link between quality assessment results and funding for teaching

  5. Fund for the Development of Teaching and Learning (FDTL) • Phase 1 - 44 projects funded • Phase 2 - 19 projects funded • Phase 3 - 33 projects funded • Phase 4 - 38 projects funded • Phase 5 - 7 million pounds available

  6. Aims of FDTL 5 • Stimulate developments in learning and teaching • Secure the widest possible involvement of institutions in the take-up and implementation of good practices

  7. Funds • Each consortium project funded for up to £250k over up to 3 years. • Single institutions eligible for up to £150k • Smaller projects up to £75k over 2 years

  8. Timetable for bidding • Deadline for Stage 1 bids to HEFCE by midday 5 December 2003 • Feedback & decision on stage one bids by 20 February 2004 • Seminar to support stage 2 bids 23-24 February or 1-2 March 2004

  9. Timetable for bidding • Deadline for Stage 2 bids to HEFCE by 24 April 2004 • Final decision September 2004 • Projects start from October 2004

  10. Consortia • Lead partner must have a Grade 4 in aspect area and approved provision • Only ONE lead bid per unit of assessment per institution • Unit of assessment can be a partner in several consortia • Partners don’t need 4s

  11. Consortia • If your consortium contains institutions from both England and Northern Ireland, please contact HEFCE so they can liase with DEL

Key issues to address • Building on and linking to existing activity • Links with institutional Learning and Teaching and Human Resources Strategies • Subject and generic priorities • Dissemination, transfer and embedding of good and innovative practice • Accessibility and equal opportunities

  13. HEFCE Criteria (Annex D)Stage One bid • Quality of project idea and its appropriateness to FDTL5 • Extent to which bid is a priority for the subject area(s) - evidence of clear need/demand • Scope for further dissemination / take-up and potential impact • Experience and expertise of team
