  2. Institute of Texan Cultures • We had a woman from the Institute Of Texan cultures come to our school • She brought and showed many artifacts from Texas many years ago

  3. Jumping Jack • The Jumping Jack is a wooden children's toy that is handmade • It was a very good toy for children because you could play it outside as well as inside

  4. Dolls • The children enjoyed playing with dolls when the weather was bad, friends were out or brothers and sisters were working • Dolls kept them happy, entertained and never alone

  5. Women's Bonnets • When women worked they worked in the hot sun so they needed something to cover there necks and heads • The older women and older children wore bonnets with a flap that covered there neck because when you got older your hair was up so your neck was bare • Children wore bonnets that did not have a flap that covered the neck because when you were young your hair was always down, covering your neck.

  6. Books • Although they worked, people of all ages liked to read and learn with books in their spare time • Books taught Texans a lot of what they needed to learn

  7. Dishes/Pots • People didn’t have nice glass plates but they had metal and iron dishes and pots • When they had special company they got to use a special set of glass or other fine material for there dish instead of the metal or iron plates and cups

  8. Soap • The art of making soap was difficult and tough • The soap was made out of animal fats and lye • The soap did not have the most flattering smell

  9. Horse care • The horse shoe (above on left) was on the bottom of the horses foot so it was not injured or hurt while riding through places with harmful things on the ground • The horse nail file (above on left) was to keep the horses nails in good and comfortable state • The horse brush (above on right) was to keep fleas, bugs and dirt etc. out of the horses hair
