  1. Reasons Why Your Law Firm Needs an Expert Legal Translation Partner

  2. The demand for multilingual translation in legal departments and law firms is on the rise. Today, accurate, reliable and quick translation and interpretation is what a client requires from a reputed law firm. With the increasing need for the businesses to expand internationally, there has been a high demand for the multilingual law firms, which can provide expert translation in various fields. A global law firm persistently needs support from external service and technology firms to meet its global caseload demands. Multilingual support is often required in various areas, such as, litigation cases, court reporting, mergers and acquisitions, bankruptcy cases, etc. There are several reasons why a law firm needs an expert legal translation partner. Let us briefly review five of them. • It is obligatory that a global law firm is involved in the mergers and acquisitions of companies that belong to different language speaking countries. In cases where the language differs, the law firm does need a bilingually well-versed advocate to solve such cases with ease.

  3. Until recently, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) viewed the matter of non-English-language documents during the discovery process with a certain amount of flexibility. If, for example, a company embarking on a merger had 500 documents in 12 different languages that the company represented were most likely not relevant to the deal, the FTC was often willing to take the company’s word for it. Today, the FTC wants to see translated documents. That adds another layer of complexity for legal departments and law firms working with multinational companies and clients. This exhibits the importance of translation in the current international business. • When a company/firm wants to expand its business globally, they might want to open physical branches in other countries. For that, they have to abide to the law of that particular country and need the help of a law firm that understands their requirement and delivers the same to the audience in a new country. • Suppose a company/firm conducting business in multiple international regions wants to introduce a new set of rules/principles for the purpose of the company’s better functionality, it is imperative for the company/firm to get them translated rightly to all the required languages of the countries where the business prevails. This can be tagged as a crucial requirement.

  4. The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) is another factor contributing to the growing need for translation processes. To safeguard against international bribery, legal representatives are now tasked with proving their compliance efforts not only in their U.S. headquarters, but also their foreign operations, and regulators. The ability to do that hinges on access to translated documentation of business practices abroad. For example, if a litigation occurs between a customer from a different country and the company, it is essential that the communication between the two parties has to be clear to attain a fair decision. Only a good international law firm could do well. The above points clearly indicate to what extent the legal sector has reached globally. In recent times, cross border communication has tremendously increased, which has resulted in the rising need for translation. For companies and firms conducting business in multiple international regions, translation is the crucial factor representing challenges related to cost and efficiency. To overcome such challenges, it requires the right combination of technological and human support. Only an efficient and a capable legal translation partner can help overcome these challenges. Major advantages of having a translation partner are as follows

  5. Cost effective: Finding good translators with desired skills across languages and domains is more cost effective when outsourced to a translation partner. • Efficient Project Management: Working with a translation firm will save the company’s time and manpower that would have been used in handling the translation projects from the initial stage (allocating the project to the right set of translators) until the end (getting the translated files back from the translators and performing a final review). • Saves Time: Translation companies will have the necessary tools and software that reduces the time of translation process, which will help deliver the projects much faster. • Translation Memories: Certain translation companies maintain a translation memory (TM), (TM is a database that stores previously translated “segments”, which can be sentences, paragraphs or sentence-like units), which can be of a great help to the translators when they are working on an ongoing project for a long time. This saves a lot of time and energy of both the translators and the company.
