  1. WMO World Meteorological OrganizationWorking together in weather, climate and water CIMO/TECO Future Directions C. Bruce Baker NOAA Vice President CIMO WMO; Name of department www.wmo.int

  2. THANK YOU !! WMO We have had a very productive and stimulating meeting!! Intercomparisons - Instruments - Algorithms Only through CIMO and TECO continued commitment to this will we be able to determine the quality of the measurements but also assess new technology to better understand the earth-atmosphere system. 3. WMO Metrology and Standardization - This is the fundamental basis for all of our work. This is the first building block necessary for understanding our Physical environment. Extends to not only instruments but also networks and assimilating data from different networks both in-situ and remote sensing Title of presentation Page number

  4. WMO Climate Observations - Many Challenges to have a truly global documented Climate observing system. All of the pieces to do this can be found in the fundamental work being done by all of us. - Defining High Quality Data - Standardization - Capacity Building Biggest challenge - Maintaining our networks to some standard Title of presentation Page number

  5. Title of page WMO 1. Management of Network Change 2. Parallel Testing 3. Meta Data 4. Data Quality and Continuity 5. Integrated Environmental Assessment 6. Historical Significance 7. Complementary Data 8. Climate Requirements 9. Continuity of Purpose 10. Data and Meta Data Access 11. Redundant Measurements Title of presentation Page number

  6. WMO What can we do over the next few years??? How do we improve our measurement capability?? How do we continue to incorporate standards for siting, Instruments, and algorithms?? How do we continue to communicate and deliver our expertise in quality measurements and observations to Promote capacity building?? Title of presentation Page number

  7. WMO • CIMO GUIDE • This is truly the world standard • Need to continue what Dr. Calpini has started and that is a • rolling review to keep up with changes in our community • Necessary to stay up to date and provide the community with • uniform guidance and sound principles for standardizing, and • maintaining high quality measurements on a global scale Title of presentation Page number

  8. WMO Continue our lead role in international Intercomparisons - CIMO Testbeds and Lead Centers - SPICE - Site Classification - Algorithms - Instruments and Algorithms - Others ?? Continue to examine how CIMO activities can better integrate Into WIGOS Title of presentation Page number

  9. WMO Finally……… How do we take what we do with technology and observations to enhance capacity building, promote standardization and improve the quality of our network observations and measurements. THANK YOU!! Title of presentation Page number
