  2. What is expository writing? Expository writing can be presented in an oral presentation or written down and the main point is to inform. Expository writing is used to explain, describe, give information or inform the audience.

  3. The Root Word • The root word of expository is exposition. • ex·po·si·tion- is providing some background information to the plot The Root Word

  4. Expository Writing Expository writing is mainly taught and focused on in colleges but we are being taught it at a high school level but don’t realize it. Many colleges work on “expository writing” and make websites and blogs explaining it and show examples. We read tons of expository writings without even realize it, because we simply don’t know what it means.

  5. Time Period Expository writing is now bigger than ever due to internet and other technologies. Websites and blogs use expository writings to express their opinions and to help inform their audience. Also, movies and music are using expository writings and are very popular nowadays.

  6. Where is it being used? Now whether you realize it or not, expository writing is everywhere we look. Newspapers, magazines, non-fictional books, and websites all contain expository writing. It is also used in films. They all inform audiences with information.

  7. An Example of Expository Writing “In 1997, 175,000 volunteers picked up three million pounds of garbage along the coasts of the United States. As a result, both people and sea animals can enjoy cleaner and safer environments. Glass bottles, lumber, and syringes are less of a threat to barefooted beachgoers. People put trash in the oceans, but by volunteering their time to help clean up after themselves, people are also the solution to the problem.”
