  4. Background • In a team co-operating across disciplinary and geographical boundaries,information resource management represents an important challenge. Purpose (from the 1997 Project document) • To create a common information resource base relevant to all project areas • To facilitate exchange of information between counterparts in Baltistan and Norway • To support AKRSP Baltistan’s efforts in networking for information access HAINRM, Norwegian Library Meeting, Hamar 19.3.2010

Status of partners’ resources at project outset • Noragric had a well functioning library which made sharing easy • AKRSP Baltistan had no established system or routines for sharing information/documents Project resources • Competence on information management in the project group • Noragric: librarian • AKRSP: leader of the Monitoring, Evaluation and ResearchSection (MER) • Funds for purchasing information as needed • Mainly spent on books for AKRSP, but some for Noragric special collection, and for research articlesto partners in both ends HAINRM, Norwegian Library Meeting, Hamar 19.3.2010

Activities • Encouraged project partners to share relevant information resources – with one another and with outsiders. • Noragric library established • special collection relevant to the project, mainly consisting of grey documents from the area– integrated in the library catalogue (BIBSYS) • database of relevant information networks within the project themes – used by AKRSP B • simple web-page for sharing of project documentation • AKRSP wanted to establish a library, collected scattered materials in one room • Created document database in ProCite, which was also used by some of the researchers for personal documentation HAINRM, Norwegian Library Meeting, Hamar 19.3.2010

  7. 1999 Noragric librarian visited AKRSP • Meetings with AKRSP staff for needs assessment • Meeting with other libraries in Skardu for networking and professional exchange • Short training of AKRSP library staff on: • Efficient use of the database system (ProCite) • Simple classification for better order and retrieval • Aquisition of documents • Journals’ management • Circulation system • Networking (newsletters, exchange agreements, mailing lists etc.) • User services, information dissemination to users • Etc.   10. 2001: End of phase 1 • Information component got good evaluation, but funds for next phase were reduced • You can’t kill personal comitment – contact continued, until Yesss…2006 gave more funding • AKRSP drafted a plan to turn its library into a Resource and Research Centre (RRC) for the benefit of the whole research community in Baltistan • Staff training in Norway • Staff training and study tours to libraries in Pakistan • Contact established with Pakistan National Digital Library • Tailored training in use of e-resources HAINRM, Norwegian Library Meeting, Hamar 19.3.2010

  11. 2007: The end of AKRSP – UMB cooperation • Final workshop and presentations to external stakeholders showed RRC’s visions: • To meet the information needs of AKRSP, AKDN, LSOs, CSOs, tourists, researchers, planners, students, elected representatives and others • Strengthen capacity and competence of AKRSP staff, partner organizations, government departments, CSOs and LSOs through • Providing a well functioning research environment with readily accessible documentation and information services • Providing support for planning, training and development activities HAINRM, Norwegian Library Meeting, Hamar 19.3.2010
