  2. Budget constraints and prospects • Discussions with regional System directors and boards over several years that led to the August 21, 2013 meeting with System directors and board representatives • Agreement to form a task force, and the make-up of that task force What led us to this point ?

  3. Charge to Regional Library System Configuration Task Force: “Develop recommendations for reconfiguration of Nebraska regional library Systems with options for fewer regions in light of reduced and uncertain future funding”

Francine Canfield (Ralston) – SACL rep. • Deb Carlson (Scottsbluff) – SACL rep. • Jessica Chamberlain (Norfolk) – NELS rep. • John Dale (Wayne) – SACL rep. • Gail Formanack (Omaha) – ELS rep. • Denise Harders (Hastings) – RVLS rep. • Vickie Retzlaff (Hyannis) – PLS rep. • Kathy Thomsen (Lexington) – MLS rep. • Dorothy Willis (Pawnee City) – SELS rep. • Staff: Rod Wagner, Richard Miller, and, de facto, John Felton because of all the maps, data, etc. he provided Task Force Members

  5. Core services to be offered: consulting, training, networking, personal contact, information, etc. • Agreement between the Commission and the System will be rewritten and updated. • Current amount of funding (about $600,000) will be kept at that level, but used by the 4 Systems rather than by 6 Systems. • Commission will cover legal costs Basics Agreed Upon

  6. Systems meeting with legal counsel to determine steps for reconfiguration • Systems holding explanatory meetings • Systems holding meetings at which members will vote on reconfiguration (some at this conference) • Formation of “transition boards” in some of the Systems What is going on now ?
