  1. Anger Lesson objectives: • To understandwhat anger is and why we might be angry • To explore the idea that we have a choice

  2. Anger is actually dangerousfor ourselves and others too

  3. Anger is a choice • What makes us react the way we do and sometime we then get angry? • Why do we shout, hit, run away, cry when we are angry sometimes? • Why do we keep calm other times? • Sometimes we ‘play a game’

  4. Partly it’s to do with the brain!! • We decide how to act • then we instruct our brain (it’s like a computer) • then we act….

  5. Different parts of the brain…

  6. Reptilian Complex This bit acts without us thinking. Like breathing, jumping at a noise, hitting someone before we realise why!

  7. Limbic System This lets information in. It copes with strong emotions like anger. It tells our bodies what to if we are in danger.

  8. Neocortex This is the clever part of the brain. It thinks carefully. It decides what things mean. It does sums and uses language.

  9. If something makes us angry the limbic system is no longer calm.It panics…. X It ignores the clever part of the brain (neocortex) that does the thinking…. X And goes straight to the reptilian complex

  10. What does that do??? When we get angry

  11. Angry = Not Nice • It is NOT nice – if we could video ourselves being angry, what would it look like? • Remember we do have a choice • We can get angry or we can stay calm, be like Mr. Cool…

  12. Why do we get angry? • It is what we have learned to do • Maybe we’ve seen our family & friends get angry? • People have been angry to us • We just want OUR OWN way • We are angry inside our self

  13. What happens then?? • When we are angry • We get upset and can’t think straight. • We do (and say) things we shouldn’t

  14. So what can we do about it?? • We need to THINK before we act. • Just give it TIME- count to 10 before we do or say anything. • Gives us time to start thinking about what is the RIGHT thing to do.

  15. Mr or Miss Angry? Count to 10 now…..it can feel a long time when you are angry! Your choice though isn’t it?

  16. Anger is a choice - peace is the best place • Today what’s your choice? • You choose • Peace, calm, happiness, love, these are a better way of living (anger is a much harder way of life)

  17. TASK N.o. 1 • List 5 things that make you really angry • Rank them as a 1 to 5 with 1 the most 5 least • When did you last ‘lose it’? • How did that make you feel?

  18. Youth Club Poster Task 2 At the local youth club young people have been getting angry. Some young men have really hurt some girls with what they’ve said. One young man actually hit a girl causing bruising and a lot of hurt by the things he did. Design an A3 or A4 a poster that could be put on the Youth Club notice board that will help people to make better choices.

  19. It Is Your Choice Then !
