  4. History of sodium • Sodium was discovered by Sir Humphrey Davy at 1807 in England. Origin of name: from the English word "soda" the origin of the symbol Na comes from the Latin word natrium.

Impact on human life • The positive relation of sodium intake and blood pressure, first recognized a century ago, has been well established in ecological, epidemiological, and experimental human studies. • It is naturally suspected that an alteration in sodium intake could alter blood pressure • To much sodium can cause bad effects to the body
