  5. Foundation Tandil was founded by Martin Rodríguez in 1823 with the name of “Fort Independence”. Tandil's name comes from two Mapuche words: "Tan" (fallen) and "Lil" (rock), which would mean "rock that falls", probably because of the balancing rock which existed there.

  6. Famous people from Tandil Juan Martin del Potro was born on September 23rd, 1988. He is an Argentinian professional tennis player. He started to play tennis at the age of 7. He won his senior match in 2004, at the age of 15. Del Potro captured his first Grand Slam title at the USA open, beating Roger Feder in the final, in June 2011.

  7. Easter in Tandil • Easter is celebrated by many people in Tandil. • People do the Stations of the Cross (Via Crucis) after the Bishop celebrates Mass.

Easter in Tandil • On this date Tandil dresses up to receive about 50,000 tourists from around the country, who spend these 4 days enjoying the scenery and regional cuisine . • The celebration is held from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday in the Amphitheatre Town Hall “Martin Fierro”. This magnificent and traditional theater shows the life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Food in Tandil • Tandil has many different kinds of food, most of them having very good flavor such as cheese and salami. • The Italian Antonio Pacelli, who was called "El Conde", made the first cheese in Tandil. . • The Salaverry family, French Basque immigrants, settled in Tandil in 1876. They devoted themselves to the making of different kinds of cheese.

  10. Our reason for the chosen city • Tandil is a very beautiful city. We are very proud of this city, not only because of the city itself but also for the famous person who was born there: Juan Martin Del Potro. • It´s a city full of history. • But beyond all this, we love Tandil, because of its people, its land and its culture.
