  1. Earth Facts. Gallegos Elementary Science/Tech. Dept.

  2. Earth is the 3rd planet from the Sun.

  3. It takes the Earth 1 year or 365 days to orbit/revolve around the Sun.

  4. Earth is a water planet.

  5. Around 75% of the Earth is water.

  6. Of all the water on Earth we can only drink less than 1% of it.

  7. The Earth is divided into 4 hemispheres.

  8. What is a hemisphere? If the Earth is a sphere.

  9. Then a hemisphere is half a sphere.

  10. There are the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. Northern Hemisphere We live here. Southern Hemisphere

  11. There are the Western and Eastern Hemispheres. We live here. Western Hemisphere Eastern Hemisphere

  12. Earth also has an imaginary line called an axis. Axis Axis

  13. The Earth rotates/spins on its axis. Axis Axis

  14. It takes the Earth 1 day or 24 hours to rotate/spin on its axis. Axis Axis

  15. The Earth’s rotation on it’s axis also gives us night and day. Axis Night time Daytime Axis

  16. The axis of the Earth also shows that the Earth is tilted to one side. Axis Axis

  17. The tilt of the Earth gives us Summer and Winter. Axis Axis

  18. When the axis of the Northern Hemisphere is tilted toward the Sun it is our Summer. Summer in the Northern Hemisphere. Axis Axis Winter in the Southern Hemisphere.

  19. When the axis of the Northern Hemisphere is tilted away from the Sun it is our Winter. Winter in the Northern Hemisphere. Axis Axis Summer in the Southern Hemisphere.

  20. The 4 Seasons Spring Summer Winter Fall

  21. Review the following Earth Facts. • Earth takes 1 year or 365 days to orbit/revolve around the Sun. • Around 75% of the Earth is water. • Earth has 4 hemispheres. We live in the Northern Hemisphere • It takes the Earth 1 day or 24 hours to spin on its axis. • Day and night are caused by Earth’s rotation on its axis. • The seasons such as Summer and Winter are caused by the Earth’s tilt.
