  3. PANCHAKARMA • The word panchkarma is comprising of two words namely Pancha & Karma . • Panch means Five & • Karma means Therapy (Process).

  4. Panchakarma = Pancha + Karma

  5. Pancha = Five • Karma = Interms of chikitsa whenever we do anything that is called karma, kriya, yatna, karya, samarambha are its synonyms. Pratikarma is also called Chikitsa.

  7. Panchakarma • Panchakarma is a curative line of treatment for all diseases which are not amenable to shamana chikitsa.

  8. The Five procedures of Panchakarma

  9. The five methods or procedures of elimination of vitiated doshas from the body. They are : • Vamana karma (Emesis therapy) • Virechana karma (Purgation therapy) • Anuvaasana therapy (Unctuous enema therapy) • Nirooha basti karma (Decoction enema therapy) • Nasya karma (Errhine therapy)
