    3. Texas Engineering Practice Act Legislation passed in emergency session to address New London school explosion. Improperly installed valve on “green” gas line leaked under school and gas was ignited by motor sparks. Act passed to insure only licensed engineers offer services to the public.

    4. Why? Marketability. Promotional opportunities. Enhanced status. Required for some positions. Law- only licensed engineers can market services to the public.

    5. Basic Requirements for a License Education. ABET accredited engineering degree. Experience. 4 years progressive engineering experience. Examinations. Fundamentals Exam. Principles & Practice Exam. Ethics Exam. References. 5 Total, 3 of them PEs.

    6. Other Licensing Issues Non-accredited degree. Foreign degree. Non-engineering degree. Advanced mathematics and science content. Experience (4,8,12-16). Exam waivers.

    7. Application Form. Supplemental Experience Record (SER) Original transcripts sent directly from institution. References. Regular application 5/3. Waiver request 9/5. Fee ($250). Ethics Exam

    8. Application (continued) Other documentation. Written exam waiver request. Documentation of English proficiency. Statement of criminal convictions. Verification of examinations.
