  1. JESUS’ MISSION MANUAL:ISAIAH 52:13-53:12(4) THE SERVANT’S RESURRECTION – GOD’S EASTER SURPRISE Penge Baptist Church Easter Sunday April 24th 2011

  2. Isaiah 53:10-12 • Yet it was the LORD'S will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering,he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

  3. God’s surprising plan! • Yet it was the LORD'S will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering,he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.

  4. The Lord’s will • This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. (Acts 2:23) • A precious offering • “The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood” (Hebrews 13:11-12) • We are his offspring! • “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children.” (Romans 8:16)

  5. Suffering and resurrection • After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

  6. Death could not hold him • “But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” (Acts 2:24) • He frees us from slavery to sin • “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45) • Resurrection proves the truth of Jesus’ words • “If Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins.” (1 Corinthians 15:17)

  7. A mighty victory • Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

  8. Exalted to the right hand of God • “In the future you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.” (Matthew 26:64) • Defeating the enemy • So God said to the serpent “I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel (Genesis 3:15) • “having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross” (Colossians 2:15) • Pouring out his life • “Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:27-28)

  9. Identifying with us • It is written: ‘And he was numbered with the transgressors’; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.” (Luke 22:37) • Praying for us • “Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” (Romans 8:34)

  10. The empty tomb – God’s Easter Surprise!

  11. “I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

  12. PRAYER OF COMMITMENT • Lord Jesus Christ, I am sorry for the things I have done wrong in my life Please forgive me. I now turn from everything which I know is wrong. • Thank you that you died on the cross for me so that I could be forgiven and set free, and that you rose again to offer me God’s love eternally. • Thank you that you now offer me this gift of forgiveness and your Spirit. I now receive that gift. Please come into my life by your Holy Spirit to be with me forever. • Thank you, Lord Jesus. Amen
