  2. Who Designed Futura? Futura was designed by a German Graphic Designer, Typographer, Type Designer, Painter and Teacher. His name is Paul Renner and he was born in 1878. From 1908 to 1917 he designed books for a living for the Munich publishing trade. While he was never directly affiliated with the Bauhaus movement in the 1920’s he became an advocate of its aims and lead the design for the ‘new typography’ movement.

  3. Characteristics of Futura Futura is a geometric sans-serif typeface. It is based on geometric shapes, that became all the rife during the Bauhaus movement. Futura contains a feeling of efficiency and forwardness, the typeface being derived from simple geometric forms for example near perfect circles, triangles and squares. Its strokes are all of near-even weight, the most visible of the near even strokes comes amongst the letter ‘o’ which you can tell represents perfection. This gives the typeface a very clean and crisp san serif type face, it almost feel mechanical. When designing Futura it is said that Paul Renner avoided the decorative, eliminating everything that was not essential within a letter. The uppercase characters represent that of the classical Roman capitals. Futura’s long ascenders and descenders benefit from generous line spacing. The range of weights and styles make it a versatile family. Finally I feel this statement says it all really. ‘Futurais timelessly modern; in 1928 it was striking, tasteful, radical — and today it continues to be a popular typographic choice to express strength, elegance, and conceptual clarity’ http://www.linotype.com/472/Futura-family.html?site=details
