  2. The 3 R’s… • Reduce-An example I could “reduce” my family’s water bill by taking shorter showers. • Reuse- For example to “reuse” I could use a reusable water bottle instead of a plastic one. • Recycle- An example of “recycling” would be if I separated the paper, cardboard, glasses, etc. from my other trash that isn’t biodegradable. • To reduce means to cut down on something, you can cut down on water wastage, gas production, and other things too. To reuse something means to use it again like a reusable water bottle, and containers. To recycle means that what you buy you don’t waste it and let it go to dumps that are killing our earth, you can buy biodegradable things so it will disintegrate and better our mother earth. Another word you could use would be “Reinvent” this means to take something you already have and going to throw away like for examples bottle caps and you could make a necklace or jewelry or a slingshot. • http://kids.niehs.nih.gov/explore/reduce/index.htm (Not ACUA)

  3. Questions? • What is the organization responsible for your families recycling in Atlantic County? • The ACUA. • What items are accepted by your recycler? • Aerosol cans, plastic bottles, carboard, paper, boxes, flourescent lightbulbs, metals, medical waste, telephone books, wrapping paper, etc. http://www.acua.com/acua/content.aspx?id=236 • How often are your recyclables picked up? • Every other week on the same day as your trash gets picked up. http://www.acua.com/acua/content.aspx?id=3802 • What items other than normal bottles, cans, and paper does your recycler take? • Bulky waste, medical waste, CFL’s, batteries, books, clean wood,

  4. Re-Invent a 2 liter bottle… • If I were to re-invent a 2 liter bottle I would make a fish tank. Then I would cut off the top and put colorful rocks in the bottom and put a little decoration like a tiny fake plant, piece of coral, or maybe a bigger rock. Then I would fill it up with water and of course put a fish.
