Expectations of Players • HAVE FUN!!!!! • Play for the love of the game • Respect your opponent • Work for the good of the team • Respect officials and their judgment • Play within the rules of the game • Be generous in victory and gracious in defeat • Always conduct yourself with honor and pride

  14. Expectations of Parents • The parent is the most important example • Be positive with your player as opposed to criticism • Help make your child’s participation rewarding for all participants • Support the coach and officials • Support and assist the program in a positive manner

Time & Cost Commitment • Saturday and Sunday Practice (indoor) • 7:00 am to 7:00 pm • Most ice at Hayes Arena and Apple Valley High School • Schedule will change throughout the season • Mid-week optional outdoor ice (weather permitting) • Season runs first weekend of November until early March

  16. Time & Cost Commitment (cont.) • USA Hockey registration fee- $50 fee if born before 1/1/2007. Free if born on or after 1/1/2007. • EVHA Registration Fee- $50 for 1st year mites • EVHA Registration Fee- $130 for returning mites • Free equipment package available for 1st year mites • Volunteer fee ($125) and fundraising requirement (typically $100)

Mite Program Focus • The emphasis of the mite program is on the development of skating/hockey skills and less on playing structured hockey games. • A typical practice might have 5-10 minutes of warm up, 40 minutes of skills training, and 10-15 minutes of in-house scrimmage against other mites of a similar skill level. • Small area games

Mite Program Focus (cont.) • Mites will also play tag and other games that will be used to emphasize skating and having fun. • Jamborees (several throughout season) • Upper level teams – a few games against other associations • Outdoor Jamboree with Eastview High School boys team- January 26, 2014?

Mite Program Schedule • Mite Clinic – 10/26 and 10/27 • Skill development – evaluation drills • 3 options: • All girls- Saturday 10:30-12:00; Sunday 10:30-11:45 • Beginner- Saturday 12:15-1:30; Sunday 12:00-1:15 • Intermediate- Saturday 1:45-3:00; Sunday 1:30-3:00 • $25 total for both sessions • Mite Evaluations 11/2 & 11/3 • Used to place kids on teams with similar skill level • Small games and scrimmaging on 11/3 • Practices start Saturday 11/9

Optional Supplemental Clinic • 12-16 Hours of additional indoor ice beginning November 13th • Focus on skating and skills training • Not team specific- all players from level 2 and level 3 teams are eligible • Will send out an email to parents announcing eligibility after mite teams are formed • $110 registration fee – check to EVHA, mailed to Brad Karst (Fee’s and hours may adjust with high participation.)

Mite Program Teams • Team Levels (last year as an example) • Two Level 3 (Intermediate) Teams • Three Level 2 (Beginner )Teams • Two Level 1 (Learn-to-skate) Teams • One All Girls Learn-to-skate Team • One All Girls Intermediate Level Team • Depends on evaluations • Team sizes • 12 – 15 players per team

  23. Mite Team Coaches • Parent Coaches; Must register with USA hockey • Register on the www.eastviewhockey.net website, click on the Coaches link. (this will take you through the background check and getting the USA hockey registration) • Coaches must submit background checks to be on the ice with the kids • Coaching certification required (Level 1) • Classes found on MN Hockey website • Coach meeting prior to the start of the season

Volunteering • 5 hours per child, 10 hours max per family • $125 per child/$250 per family – reimbursed at end of the season (via check) if your volunteer obligation is met • Head coach, one asst. coach, and team manager are exempt • We would like each team to provide a Booster Club Member. This role will be exempt • Check the volunteer system (Dibs) for available hours • Volunteer policy available on the website

Team Managers • Team Communication- upcoming schedule, etc. • Distribute and collect fundraiser tickets and money • Planning for team level food for the outdoor mite jamboree • Helping team fulfill their concession/ volunteer duties: Assigning hours, trading shifts, etc. • Plan team party • Coordinate/Distribute team pictures • Covers your Volunteer Hours commitment

  26. New Mite Parents • Clinic and Evaluation participation • Socks and Jerseys • Be patient with you child • Arrive 20-30 minutes before ice time

  27. EVHA Booster Club • Each Team will have a Booster Club Member • Booster Club Members • Organize Raffle • Collect Donations/Sponsorship from Businesses • Collect Raffle Money from Team • Auction Basket for Team • Attend 3-5 meetings during year Covers your Volunteer Hours requirement

  28. Fundraisers • Golf Tourney • Pull Tabs & Bingo • Eastview Girls Tourney held at Eagan Arena in Dec • Eastview Night at the Wild. A portion of the sales proceeds are given back to the association • Raffle sales
