  6. So what is changing? LESS MORE • State Funding • Reduced Offerings • Economics • Staffing and Services • Decreased UC/CSU admissions • Technological resources • Training resources • Unemployment • Demand/Competition • Increased Workloads • Expectations for information • Technological changes

  7. Who is changing? • Full time Students? • More Motivated / Directed Students? • Better Prepared ? • 4 year/Transfer seeking? • More demanding of personalized services? • Less tolerant ? • Fewer minorities?

  8. What constituencies does A&R serve? • Students • Staff • Faculty • Administration • Graduates • Alumni

  9. Context • Think about who you are, and the nature of your own organization- be real! • What approach do you think is being taken, or should be taken as you face these new realities and changes? • What can you influence?

Live in the present Stay grounded • Acknowledge the change • Simultaneous change • Post pone what you can • Foresee as much as you can • Forsee as much as your people can • Do worst case scenarios • Accept change as a norm • Clarify your purpose • Unload baggage • Focus on solutions
