All-State Band, Jazz Band AND All-Region Band • Congratulations  to Katherine Shindledecker, Nicholas Duvall, for making All-State Band.  These students auditioned against the best musicians in the state of South Carolina and earned a chair in the band. • Congratulations to  Blake Faulkner for earning a chair in the All-State Jazz Band. • Congratulations to the following students earned a chair in the All-Region 2 Band; Emileigh Goff, Emily Brooks, Amy Pressley, Jacob Corley, Chris McLemore, Luke Miller, Patrick Swanson, Brooke Tager, Blake Faulkner, Nicholas Duvall, Tyann Guess, Justin Burgess, Kenneth Phelps, and Colton Hendrix. • Good luck to our winter ensembles as they begin their competition season this weekend at West Ashley H.S.   4. An admission representative with Columbia International University (CIU) will be in the cafeteria during all three lunches on February 5th. Plan to stop by and find out more about this university. R. hendrix

  5. Miss ghs 2014 Save the date! Miss GHS 2014 will be on Saturday February 1st at 7:00 in the GHS Little Theatre. This year’s theme is: ‘All Around the World’! Come out and support your friends and fellow classmates as they compete for the title of Miss GHS! Pageant starts at 7, and admission is $5 for adults, $2 for students and kids R. hendrix

  6. Lexington 1 Centers for Advanced Study • Be on the lookout for Centers for Advanced Study to visit GHS. Any 10th grader interested in attending may sign up in Guidance. Once you sign up, please plan to attend. The following dates/times are scheduled for visits: • January 31 @ 9:45 – Center for Advanced Agribusiness Research (located at Pelion High School) • February 3 @ 11:00 – Center for Law and Global Policy Development & Center for Media Arts, Design and Production (located at River Bluff High School) • February 4 @ 9:50 – Center for Sustainable Solutions (located at Gilbert High School) • February 7 @ 11:00 – Center for World Languages & International Business (located at Lexington High School) R. hendrix

Next Meeting • HOSA Meeting Cancelled • Due to the threat of wintry weather tomorrow, we have cancelled the HOSA meeting for Tuesday evening!  (We needed to make this decision today, since we would normally order pizzas this afternoon)  • Please watch for announcements about voting for the "Most Outstanding Senior" and for information about the blood drive. • If you already paid for pizza, see your advisor! • **You must pay $3 by Monday, Jan 27, if you plan to eat. Going to State? • You 3rd payment + all of your forms are due on Thursday, Jan 16th.   • We must know your competitive event by Thursday.  • Study materials have been ordered for everyone who requested them......They should be in by our next meeting.   • Parent/Student mandatory meeting is Thursday, February 20 @ 6:00pm in room #433.   17. Boys golf • Tryouts for the GHS golf team will begin February 4. Boys interested in trying out must sign up in the main office and pick up an information packet. You must have a physical to try out. **Returning players do NOT need to sign up R. hendrix

  18. After school weightlifting • After school weightlifting with Coach John Bass has begun! (3:45 until 4:30 pm in the weight room.) • All students participating must have a current physical (dated after April 1, 2013) and a Sports Medicine /Emergency Consent Form before they can lift. • Copies of these forms may be picked up in the main office or with Coach Millwood. • If you have any questions, see Coach John Bass Room 236. Baseball Tryouts: Date Change • **Anyone wishing to tryout must have a current physical and parent permission form on file with Coach Millwood. • Varsity Baseball tryouts will be heldon: • Feb. 3, 4, and 5 • 3:45-5:30 at the GHS baseball field.  • JV and B-team tryouts will be held: • Feb.11, 12, and 13 • 3:30 -5-30 at the GHS Baseball field.  R. hendrix
