  2. Get This Party Started: Must DO! • Agenda (on white board) is to be written down every day even if no work is assigned! • Red=Regular • Blue=Advanced • CW = CLASSwork • HW = HOMEwork • Classwork may become HOMEwork IF it is NOT finished in class • This is.. WHY we write everything down :o)

  3. Essential Materials • Duo tang folder 2 pockets or ½ in 3-ring binder • Paper, pencils, highlighters, ruler, pens (blue, black, red, purple), colored pencils, crayons, construction paper • Calculator, flash drive (1 GB+) • PLEASE bring a ream of copy paper to share with team (more copies =less notes for YOU to copy)  • Tissues also come in handy

  4. A Little About Me • 9th Year at Pioneer • Taught 6, 7, 8th at Pioneer • From NY State: • SUNY Albany BA Marine Science • SUNY Plattsburgh MS Education • Florida Atlantic Univ. EdS. Admin. (to be a Principal) • Currently at FAU working on PhD. marine science education (11yrs.of college so far!!) • Marine Science Club advisor • Science Dept. Chairperson • Team leader with Mrs. Kramer (LA)

  5. Attention Please!!! • When I need your attention, I will raise my hand and count back from 5 • This gives you time to realize what is going on • Mouths closed until further instruction • IF you do not control your behavior, there WILL BE consequences for repeat offenders!

  6. Daily Question • Unfortunately FCAT is here to stay • Every day a question will be posted when you come to class • You will be required to write down the: 1.number 2. date 3. FULL QUESTION (incase you aren’t sure you can look it up)! They will be to help you review for FCAT (3 years of material!!!!) **HINT most comes from the “Word Wall”

  7. What is the Word Wall? • The WORD WALL will be posted around the room for each unit/chapter/topic • They are vocabulary words that are essential for science • Most likely tested on in some way • YOU NEED to know them

  8. If You’re Absent If you are out it is your responsibility to get assigned work District policy states you have 2 days to turn in work after an absence Check the website Ask a RELIABLE friend

  9. Consequences • Think about this……..do you REALLY think I ENJOY disciplinary problems? I don’t come to school in the morning thinking about who I am GOING TO GET • YOU bring on your OWN problems PLEASE make an effort to be aware of how your actions affect others. • It is simply NOT fair…it’s better to keep quiet and reflect rather than act out and project!

  10. Potential Consequences • Verbal Warning (3 strikes!) • Continued requests will be recorded • Parent contact letter • Phone call • Detention (some actions MAY skip warning and get automatic detention) • Referral • Suspension

  11. Extra Credit • MAY be offered on an as needed basis • DON’T ask me for extra credit • Free answer coupons for tough questions* • FOR SURE OPPORTUNITIES • Box tops for education, Campbells Labels OLD NOT used cell phones and ink cartridges • Class collecting the most at the end of the month gets a “reward” donuts, ice cream, etc…

  12. Don’t get “ZAP”ped • In order to promote good work habits you will be required to make up work that is not completed for half credit • After 3 zero grades YOU get academic detention: served before/after school • You will be required to complete work for half credit • This is a GIFT, and will ONLY be done 1st quarter

  13. Fire/Tornado Drills • Bad behavior NOT tolerated! Detention will be given • Tornado procedures will come on over announcements, we don’t go anywhere • Fire drill procedure: • Evacuate building through the south exit • Go to back field • Look for our team spot (and myself with clipboard) • Electives have their own areas • Sit/squat in a line and wait for attendance to be called SUPER IMPORTANT You are ALWAYS REQUIRED to report to the teacher who last took attendance even if the bell rings during the drill

  14. Morning Announcements • Very important that you listen to them • Just because YOU aren’t participating in something DOESN’T mean someone else isn’t • If YOU don’t know what is going on it is YOUR fault for not paying attention to what is announced

  15. Paper Heading and DON’TS • In the upper left/right hand corner you should always have • Name • Date • Period • I will not chase you; papers with no names will be Thrown AWAY • DON’T use red pens or any other Obnoxious colors for assignments. Blue/Black/Purple or Pencil are fine • I don’t care whether you use Pencil or Pen, BUT if work is a MESS it MAY need to be redone

  16. The Books! • Books this year are unlike anything we’ve had • They are workbooks; you tear out the pages as assigned • We WILL be using the older books as a resource • There are NO books to take home :o) • You MUST keep all handouts in your folder/binder

  17. Bathroom etc… • If you need to go TRY to go before class starts in between classes • You must ask to have your agenda signed • Bring it filled out BEFORE asking me to sign • Abuse of bathroom will result in LOSS of privilege • Sharpening pencils should be done before class • If you need to get out of your seat ASK!

  18. Electronics/Candy/Snacks • There may be times when IPOD use in class is allowed ONLY during those times • NO GUM NO EXCEPTIONS letters will be sent home for repeat offenders and removal will occur • NO snacks/candy unless they came from me or another teacher

  19. Cafeteria and Hallways • After 3rd hour most will go to lunch • You will have a SPECIFIC TABLE you are to sit at • I will pick you up 4th hour CLEAN UP! • Floor MUST be clean before we leave • Hall behavior must be proper or consequences will occur! • KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF • Negative comments to yourself • I HEAR VERY WELL and I blend well in a crowd (notice the blending of the text)

  20. Other Don’ts • Don’t be “chronically” late. • ABUSE will result in “Tardy” being assigned • Don’t go behind my desk (unless asked) • This is like ME going in YOUR bag • Don’t touch the aquarium or ANY other materials in the room (LABS etc….) If you want to purchase fish/materials ask! • Don’t take other people’s things • Don’t ask personal questions. If someone WANTS to share something, they will. • Piece of advice, … DON’T believe everything your hear, chances are it’s not true :o(

  21. DO’s • Try to do your best • Suggest your ideas (I don’t know everything) and I’m open for suggestions and improvements • Approach me if you have something you need to discuss (I’ve heard everything) • Try to fix problems BEFORE parents are notified • Ask questions when you REALLY aren’t clear on something • Make new friends, try something new • Have a great year! Questions???
