  2. Confidence • The feeling you have when you believe in yourself. • You feel you have control over a situation. • Belief that you can get the job done.

  3. Stage Fright • Most evident right before we begin speaking or performing and during the first 30 seconds of our performance. • Heart rates increase to nearly 200 beats per minute. • Stage fright is real and affects countless people.

  4. Who gets stage fright? • Anyone who has to stand out and speak or perform in front of others can get stage fright. • Musicians • Actors • Politicians • Job candidates • Friends • Family • Classmates

  5. Understanding stage fright • Phobia • Social phobias • Performance anxiety • Topophobia • Phonophobia

  6. Symptoms of stage fright • Headache • Upset stomach • Dry mouth • Cold hands • Sweaty palms • Squeaky voice • Dizziness • Fast heartbeat • Shortness of breath • Hot face • Wobbly legs • Need to use the bathroom

  7. Perception • How you see things • Audience perception Do not assume you know what your audience is thinking. Your audience will ignore mistakes if they feel you are genuine. • Your Perception of your speech Remember your speech’s purpose is an opportunity to share and communicate with people you care about. • Your perception of yourself Don’t try to be perfect. Recognize your worth Don’t be afraid to fail.
