  4. What is an ADRC? • An ADRC is the place for information and assistance related to aging or living with a disability. ADRC’s gather information, answer your questions, and explain what options are available to you. • ADRC’s are located in all counties in Wisconsin

  5. Features • ADRC Services are Free • Immediately available; no waiting • Voluntary, Consumer Directed • Unbiased information • Experienced staff • Comprehensive Database

  6. Who We Serve • Older Adults • Adults with Chronic Health Conditions • Adults with Developmental Disabilities • Adults with Physical Disabilities • High School Transition (age 17 ½+) • All income levels • Family Members, Caregivers and Friends

  7. What We Do • Provide Information and Assistance • Assess your needs. Provide health and wellness information • Explain options and suggest appropriate services as well as inform you of the costs if possible • Public Benefits Eligibility for government programs – Medicaid, Medicare, FoodShare, a Disability Determination from Social Security • Elder Benefit Specialists for consumers 60 years and older • Disability Benefit Specialists for adults 18 to 59

What happens when I contact the ADRC? • An Information and Assistance (I and A) Specialist answers the phone / greets a walk-in consumer / answers an e-mail • You determine what and how much ADRC assistance you want • The same I and A Specialist follows up on your issue – giving you available resources • An I and A may contact you in a week or two to see if the information given was helpful

  9. Disability Benefit Specialists • There are four disability benefit specialists at the ADRC. They can help adults ages 18 to 59 with physical disabilities, developmental disabilities, mental illness and/or substance use disorders. • How can they help you? They can: • Provide accurate information on public and private benefits and programs; • Help determine which benefits and programs you may be entitled to; • Help you to fill out applications for benefits, programs and services;

Disability Benefit Specialists cont. • Help you to fill out applications for benefits, programs and services; • Talk with you about your choices and the programs or services that might best meet your needs; • Providing assistance in obtaining or retaining benefits and services; • Provide referrals, assistance and support on other matters including disability rights.

  11. Disability Benefit Specialists cont. • What programs can they help with? • Medicaid (Medical Assistance) • Social Security Disability Income (SSDI). Including applying for disability through Social Security. • Supplemental Security Income (SSI) • Medicare • Prescription Drug Assistance • Food Share • Low-Income Tax Credits • Insurance Issues • Housing and Utility Issues

  12. Elder Benefit Specialists • There are two Elder Benefit Specialists located at the ADRC. They work with people 60 years and older who are having a problem with their private or government benefits. They have access to attorneys knowledgeable in elder law; these attorneys are also available to assist older persons in need of legal representation on benefit matters. • They can also help older adults who need help applying for benefits, or who have been denied a benefit that they think they are entitled to receive.

Elder Benefit Specialists cont… • Food Share • Social Security (SSI, SSI-E, SSDI, overpayment issues, etc.) • Railroad Retirement Benefits • Lifeline/LinkUp • Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program (WHEAP) • Wisconsin’s Weatherization Assistance Program (disputes and appeals) • Subsidized Housing Access/Tenant Rights • Utility Shutoffs/Unpaid Utility Bills • Landlord/Tenant/Evictions/Security Deposit Return • And more

  15. Focal Points for Seniors • In addition to using the ADRC for their needs, older adults can also contact their local Focal Points in Dane County. They are: • East Madison/Monona Coalition of the Aging • South Madison Coalition of the Elderly • North/Eastside Senior Coalition • West Madison Senior Coalition • Belleville Senior Center • Colonial Club Senior Activity Center • DeForest Area Community & Senior Center • Fitchburg Senior Center
