  1. Blackwater Eve Bunting1999Fiction Jordyn S. 7th

  2. Setting • Blackwater River, all day there were roaring currents. Its important to the story because that’s where a significant event happened. It adds meaning to the story because it shows how horrible that place is. The book would be different because you wouldn’t understand why the event was so tragic.

  3. Characters

  4. Conflict • This is a man vs. man conflict. Brodie is trying to decide whether or not to tell the truth to his parents since he didn’t mean to cause the deaths of Pauline and Otis.

  5. Summary of Plot • A boy named Brodie Lynch is ready to have a great summer but his cousin Alex comes to visit. A horrible prank goes wrong, one child is missing and the other one is dead. He tells a lie to cover it up but, will that be enough?

  6. Theme • The truth will set you free. • Text Evidence 1:”And I’m going to tell,” (pg.139) • Text Evidence 2: “It was poisoning me just knowing. (Pg.139) • Text Evidence 3: “Mom, I have to tell you….” (pg.45)

  7. Point of View • This book was written in 1st person point of view. This point of view helps the reader understand the feelings of the main character. The story would be because you wouldn’t be able to know how Brodie feels and his is the most important character.

  8. Symbolism • I think a puppy would be a good symbol because a puppy is playful and in a way it almost pulls pranks on us..like Brodie. For example if a puppy hurts its owner it feels guilty like when Brodie pulled a prank and someone ended up getting killed he felt guilty.

  9. Recommendation • I would recommend reading this book because it kind of teaches you a life lesson and its very interesting. Its worth reading because again it teaches you and important life lesson and you are always on the edge of your seat with this story.
