  2. Western Africa. On the coast of the Indian ocean • Kenya is situated right along the equator, on the eastern coast of the African continent. Its coastal region is on the southeast, and to the east lies Somalia. Ethiopia is to the north, the Sudan to the northwest, and Uganda directly to the west. and south lies Tanzania Map

  3. Kenyan facts • The Kenyan official national language is English, There also another national language, Kiswahili. Both Languages are taught throughout the country. Also there is Swahili. • Population is on tenth the U.S

  5. History • People believe that people first inhabited Kenya about 2 million years ago • Kenya became a British protectorate in 1890 • On December 12, 1963 Kenya became an independent nation.

  6. Kalimba • It appears to have been invented twice: Once was a wood or bamboo-tined instrument that appeared on the west coast of Africa 3000 years ago • Another one is a metal tined lamellophone that came from the Zambezi River about 1000 years ago sample

  7. Monkey drum • Hand drum made of animal skin and wood crafted and painted by artisans from Kenya Africa

  8. Kora • The kora is a 21-string harp-lute used extensively by peoples in West Africa. A kora is built from a large calabash cut in half and covered with cow skin to make a resonator, and has a notched edge like a lute or guitar. The sound of a kora resembles that of a harp, though when played in the traditional style, it bears a closer resemblance to flamenco guitar techniques

  10. The Nyatiti • The nyatiti comes from the Luo community in Nyanza province, near Lake Victoria in Western Kenya. It has eight strings played by plucking, and is most often used to accompany praise songs. sample
