Approval:NintedanibisasmallmoleculeTKI,targetingvascularendothelialgrowthfactorreceptor,fibroblastgrowthfactorreceptorandplateletderivedgrowthfactorreceptor.ItwasdevelopedbyBoehringerIngelheimandreceivedU.S.FDAapprovalfortheidiopathicpulmonaryfibrosisintheyearof2014.Severalstudiessincehavedemonstratednintedanib'seffectivenessinordertoslowtheprogressive,terminallungdisease. DosageForm:NintedanibcomesintheformofcapsulesgenericallyandunderthebrandnameOfev/Vargatef.Thestandardnintedanibdoseis150mgtwiceinadayadministeredaround12hoursapart. Nintedanibcapsulesshouldbetakenwithfoodandshouldbeswallowedwholethroughtheliquid.Itshouldnotbechewed/crushedduetothebittertaste. Ifanintedanib150mgdoseismissed,thenextdoseneedstobetakenatthenextscheduledtime.Patientsareapprisedtoavoidmakingupforamisseddose.Alsoavoidexceedingtheusualmaximumdailydoseofnintedanib300mg. SideEffects:Sideeffectsofnintedanibareusuallymildandnotlifethreatening.Thecommonlyreportedsideeffectsmayincludevomiting,abdominalpain,anddiarrhea.
