  4. Features • Operates simultaneous with normal data exchange • Graphical view of entire wireless network • Programmable warning/alarms with logging • Displays both ends of all RF links • Diagnostic data served via OPC • Supports multiple radio networks

  5. Diagnostics/Radio Performance • Diagnostics operation is secondary to user data exchange so diagnostics performance will degrade on heavily loaded systems • Diagnostic information is exchanged along with user data so user data throughput could be affected

Considerations • Consider: • Diagnostics setup and use can be complex • Radio upgrades may be needed • Improper use can cause catastrophic network failure • For Who? • Customers with larger networks and skilled staff • Networks with operational issues • Customers with DLG Technical Support guidance • Customers embedding LincView data into their application

Why Diagnostics? • Primarily radio network analysis • Radio network startup • In-service troubleshooting • Network benchmarking • Network reconfiguration or tuning • Secondarily linkage for OPC clients • Radio network event detection and alarming • Correlate radio network and process events • Historical / trend data archiving • Predictive and preventative maintenance

  8. Technical Support Boundaries • As always we support our products including all versions of LincView • Will assist with network analysis and problem resolution • Full support for server side OPC • Limited support for OPC clients and LincView OPC data usage

Minimum Requirements • LincView diagnostic program • Computer: • Serial port and/or Ethernet ports • Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP • Disk space: Minimum 12 megabytes available • New Series master radio possibly with the /DIAG option or kit: • 6X00 Serial Kit, Diagnostics (930-11769-000) • 6X10 Ethernet Kit, Diagnostics (930-11770-000) • Kits include diagnostics serial cable: /C232/SRM6x/PC • Radio network configured for Point-To-Multipoint Operation using CallBook, Network ID, or Subnet ID

Radio Series Identification • New Series Identification • 900MHz Products (SRM6210E / SRM6000) • Call numbers of 911-xxxx or newer (greater) • Firmware versions 2.xx • 2.4GHz Products (SRM6310E / SRM6100) • Call numbers of 241-xxxx or newer (greater) • Firmware versions 3.xx • Old Series Identification • 900MHz Products • Call number less than 911-xxxx • Firmware versions 5.xx • 2.4GHz Products • Call numbers less than 241-xxxx • Firmware versions 1.xx • All radios are firmware upgradeable however Old Series firmware cannot be upgraded to New Series firmware (different hardware)

Radio Series Identification (Cont.) • The radio Call number and firmware version can be determined by: • Customer records archive • The Configuration Sheets provided by the factory with each modem, or • Using HyperTerminal, enter the radio’s configuration menu, and read the first lines of the Main Menu

  15. Master Radio Requirements • Master Radio MUST be New Series radio with firmware versions of 2.28 or 3.41 and newer. Firmware upgrade if necessary. • Optional diagnostics port if using RS232 or TCP/IP diagnostics communications • Not required for UDP diagnostics communications • Cannot be used with chassis mounted master radios • The SRM6200E-SLC chassis mounted radio can be used as a UDP master

  16. Non-Master Radio Requirements • Diagnostics port option not required • Full Capability: New Series radios • Partial Capability: • Old Series radios with at least 5.63 or 1.58 firmware. Firmware upgrade if necessary. • If Old Series repeaters the radios RF connected to the repeater will not be visible in LincView. Use New Series radios as repeaters for full capability. • Not Supported: • Old Series radios with firmware prior to 5.63 or 1.58. Must upgrade the firmware.

  17. Limitations • The LincView computer must be wire-side connected (RS232 or Ethernet) to the master radio • LincView only operates with radios already communicating with the master • LincView will not operate with Point-To-Point radio networks (re-configure as P2MP)

  18. Firmware Upgrading • Contact Data-Linc Technical Support for latest information and utilities. • Follow Technical Support instructions. DO NOT interfere with the upgrade process as your product could be rendered useless and must be returned to Data-Linc for repair

  19. Steps To Operation • Determine Radio Series and firmware versions. Upgrade if necessary. • Configure the radio network. • Install the LincView OPC program. • Configure LincView OPC and observe status, “Communicating with master…”

  20. LincView OPC Program Installation • Run the LincView setup program and answer typical setup questions. • Start by double clicking the LincView icon on the desktop. • Choose an existing network file or type in the name of a new network file. • LincView is running.

Radio: RS232 Setup • Install diagnostic port on master radio • Enter master radio configuration: • At main menu choose option 5 (Multipoint Parameters), then change option B (Diagnostics) to 1 - 63 (15 Suggested) • At main menu choose option 3 (radio transmission characteristics) and ensure option B (MCU Speed) is set to 1 • Optionally, a password may be set in the radio Set “Password” (Main Menu option 8) to your Password (I.e. 1234).WARNING: Do Not Forget Your Password! If lost the unit must be returned to Data-Linc for password reset. • Other Radios: No Menu changes Needed • Connect Diagnostic computer to diagnostic port with /C232/SRM60/PC cable

  23. LincView: RS232 Configuration • Choose the ‘Serial Port’ radio button • Then select your COM port If properly configured this will change to “Talking to master…”

Radio: Ethernet UDP Setup • For all Radios with user equipment attached: • Remove side panel opposite the antenna • Set the “Cmpr Switch” (compression) to ON • Enter master radio configuration: • At main menu choose option 5 (Multipoint Parameters) then option B (Diagnostics) and set to 129 • At main menu choose option 0 (Set Operation Mode) then option F (Ethernet Options) • Choose option 4 (IP Address) and set to an unused IP Address on your network segment (i.e. 192.168.1.214) • If option 5 is present (UDP Port), set to 4131 • At main menu choose option 3 (radio transmission characteristics) and ensure option B (MCU Speed) is set to 1 • Optionally, a password may be set in the radio Set “Password” (Main Menu option 8) to your Password (I.e. 1234).WARNING: Do Not Forget Your Password! If lost the unit must be returned to Data-Linc for password reset. • Other Radios’ configuration parameters: No changes needed

LincView: Ethernet UDP Setup • Choose the UDP radio button • Change IP Address • This is the address as configured in the modem • Change the Port Number to match that set in the master radio: 4131 • Enter the master radio password if set in the radio If properly configured this will change to “Talking to master…”

Radio: Ethernet TCP/IP Setup • Install diagnostic port on master radio • Enter master radio configuration and at Main Menu • At main menu choose option 5 (Multipoint Parameters), then option B (Diagnostics) and set to 1 - 63 (15 Suggested) • At main menu choose option 3 (radio transmission characteristics) and ensure option B (MCU Speed) is set to 1 • Optionally, a password may be set in the radio Set “Password” (Main Menu option 8) to your Password (I.e. 1234).WARNING: Do Not Forget Your Password! If lost the unit must be returned to Data-Linc for password reset. • Other Radios: No Menu changes Needed • Terminal Server (we use Lantronix UDS100) • Configure Terminal Server per manufacturer’s instructions and • 115,000 bps, 8 data bits, no parity, 1 start bit, 1 stop bit • Set IP address and port number • Connect Terminal Server to radio’s diagnostic port with /C232/SRM60/PC cable • Connect Terminal Server to Ethernet

  29. LincView: Ethernet TCP/IP Setup • Choose TCP/IP radio button • Change IP Address • This is the address of the Terminal Server • Change the Port Number to that set in the Terminal Server If properly configured this will change to “Talking to master…”

  32. LincView OPC Server Name • To configure LincView Server Name choose OPC from the menu bar then enter the name. • When initially named LincView must be restarted for the name change to take affect.
