Gas Alarm System 4th Floor, Kjemi VIf Gas Alarm, What to do? • There is 1 min delay before signal goes to the fire brigades (if high alarm) • Hurry to the alarm central. • Turn the timer above the panel to further delay the signal • Set the “Lyd/lys” switch below the panel to 0. This turns off the sirens. • On the panel, locate which sensor (channel) is in alarm, and check the concentration. Decreasing concentration: • If possible try to figure out what triggered the alarm. Get the situation under control. When signal level drops below low alarm: Push the Acquit button on the central to “reset” the signal to the fire brigade Increasing concentration: • Figure out why! Get the situation under control. • If signal level drops below low alarm: Push the Acquit button on the central to “reset” the signal to the fire brigade Out of control: • Turn back the timer to activate the signal to fire brigade (still 1 min delay) • Set the “Lyd/lys” switch to 1 to activate the sirens again • Evacuate the building • Under control: • Remember to turn back the timer to enable the signal to fire brigade and set the “Lyd/lys” switch to 1 to enable the sirens again

Alarm levels and actions4th floor block 5. 7 labs covered. 3 detectors in each lab: one CO and two LEL (ceiling/floor) calibrated for CH4 • CO: • Low alarm at 20 ppm*, beeper/flashing red light in corridor outside the lab is triggered, no evacuation needed • High alarm at 40 ppm*, fire alarm with automatic call for the fire brigade after one minute, full evacuation of whole building • CH4 (and other hydrocarbons): • Low alarm at 20** LEL, same actions as for low CO alarm • High alarm at 40** LEL, fire alarm with automatic call for the fire brigade after one minute, full evacuation of whole building • Lower Explosion Limit (LEL): Lowest concentration for explosion in air, e.g. H2: ca 4 vol%. UEL corresponding upper limit • Adm. Norm: • Mean value concentration limit allowed for continuous exposure during an 8 hours shift, e.g. 25 ppm CO, 10 ppm H2S. Certain rules for short time exposure to higher concentrations, 100 ppm CO • Cross sensitivity: • Sensitivity to other gases than calibrated for. CO-detectors are cross sensitive to H2, and CH4 to other hydrocarbons Detectors, CO+2xLEL Gas alarm central
