  5. Short Interval Controls • SIC's are the success of a project. They are measurements made in line with the agreed KPI and compared to the target. As the name suggests, the shorter the interval between measurements, the quicker the candidate can realize an out of range activity, and react to rectify the situation, resulting in a smaller loss.  If the situation cannot be rectified by the first level it is then escalated to the next level, until the problem can be resolved. Note, the SIC should not be time consuming so loosing the focus on the work at hand, and should take into account the literacy / numeracy level of the operator. The SIC should be a self measurement, thus allowing the operator to understand and trust the figures. This is a step closer to empowerment. www.gksolutions.co.za
