  3. Schools in Michigan • There are currently 7 NCAA Division 1 Hockey schools in Michigan. • The schools are. Michigan State University, Michigan Tech University, Lake Superior State University, University of Michigan, Northern Michigan University, Western Michigan University, and Ferris State University • Professional scouts come to these games and watch their future draft picks. • The best way to prepare for professional hockey is taking the college hockey route.

  4. Cost of Schooling • The cost of schooling for the usual Division 1 hockey player is pretty low. • The student athletes usually reach their college team on a full ride scholarship. • The students who did not reach the team on a scholarship (walk-ons) have to pay full tuition usually have to pay for one year of schooling. • In my case if I were a walk-on I would attend Michigan State University.

  6. Length of Schooling • Most college hockey players who to choose to play college hockey usually attend 4 years of college. • Although most college hockey player attend all four years of college before going to the professional level, the more outstanding college players will most likely leave college early to play at the professional level.

  7. Education / Credentials • Most professional hockey teams don’t require an education to play professional hockey. Although they prefer to draft or acquire players with at least a 2.75 GPA . Taylor Hall the #1 overall pick in the NHL 2010 draft had a 3.0 GPA through his high-school career.

  10. Job Future • Their will always be a demand for entertainment, and thus a demand for professional hockey players. • It’s a very difficult task to do though only about 1 in 100,000 youth hockey players will play professional hockey. • The odds of making the N.H.L. are 1 in 270,000.

  11. Pursue Career? • I will continue to pursue this career until it seems unreasonable to continue.
