  2. Historical Overview • DL meeting discussions ongoing • Concept presented to CIA June ‘06 • COP presentations June ’06, July ’07 • RFI released May ’07, 7 responses • Technology Task Force July ‘07 • Back to COP for LBR August ’07

  3. RFI Results • 7 Responses • Committee Review June ’07 • Summary of desired features prepared

  4. Member Survey – 20 responses • Offer online tutoring? 45% (9) • Vendor provided = 45.5% (5) • In-house = 18.2% (2) • Combination = 36.4% (4) • No response (9)

  5. Proposed Solutions to Support • Shared access to software for local tutoring = 55.6% (10) • Collaborative tutoring for participating institutions = 55.6% (10) • Shared access to vendor-provided tutoring support = 88.9% (16) • No program = 5.6% (1)

  6. Task: Identify Options & Costs • Review RFI proposals – completed • Prepare list of features for RFP – begun • Take LBR recommendation to COP • Determine direction – TBD • Vote on recommendation

  7. Vote needed • Recommend that the FDLC pursue funding for a statewide virtual e-tutoring service that includes: shared access to tutoring software for local tutoring, a collaborative tutoring model for participating institutions, and/or shared access to a pool of external, vendor-provided tutoring support.

  8. Advantages: • Earmark, placeholder • Recognition by legislature of continued interest • SACS requirement • We inform vendors rather than vendors inform us • Part of larger LBR • Larger institutions helping smaller

  9. Disadvantages: • Individual institutions may prefer to support own service • Institutional dollars may already be earmarked with vendor solution

  10. Concerns & Questions: • Will a positive vote commit institutional funds? • If we don’t get funded, then what?

  11. Process • As FDLC liaison to COP, Dr. Wallace lodged the LBR request July 19 • Division of Community Colleges submitted documents for DOE LBR as placeholders July 31. • Universities agreed to fund half. • Dr. Wallace will submit formal recommendation to the COP at the August 14 meeting following our vote.

  12. Vote Needed • Yea or Nay?

  13. Next Steps: • Continued work by task force • Addition of representation from other interested entities, ex. CIA • Determine direction • Develop RFP
