Objective • Learn about the district STEM/STEAM Certification • Develop an understanding of the purpose for the certification process: • To build, refine, and document the STEM/STEAM culture at your school • To become part of a STEM/STEAM Network dedicated to explore emerging research on interdisciplinary instruction and best practices

  3. Los Angeles Unified School District STEAM Vision The vision for K-12 STEM/STEAM education in Los Angeles Unified School District is to empower school communities to integrate science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics through the process of critical thinking, communication, creativity, and collaboration to foster innovation not just for today, but the future.

  4. Alignment to District Goals Supporting schools to design and implement a quality STEM/STEAM program that will result in student achievement, meeting and exceeding the district goals: • 100% Graduation • Proficiency for All • 100% Attendance • Parent and Community Engagement • School Safety

  5. LAUSD Certification Process The Certification process will help schools identify qualities to which it can calibrate, refine, and validate its STEM/STEAM program.

  6. LAUSD STEM/STEAM Certification • All schools in the certification process will be supported in implementing a STEM/STEAM program. Certification is valid for four years with: • Annual self reflection • Validation visit in year two

  7. STEM/STEAM Framework • Vision • STEM/STEAM Culture • Infrastructure • Instruction • Essential Skills • Partnerships

  8. Facilitator Team Commitment Dates

  9. STEM/STEAM Facilitator Team At least three members representing your school including • One Administrator • One Teacher • One member of school’s choice

  10. STEM/STEAM Facilitator Team Roles & Responsibilities • Build a STEM/STEAM portfolio • Engage in self-reflection and self-study • Explore emerging research • Join a STEM/STEAM network
