  2. Background/History Name: Neel Tushar Kashkari • Born in Akron, Ohio 1973 • Grew up in a middle-class household • Parents are immigrants from Kashmir • Growing up, his family was very liberal, but Kashkari’s free-market views led him to identify as a Republican

  3. Early Career • Appointed to the Department of the Treasury in 2006 • Enhanced national security and environmental sustainability • Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in 2008 • Received Alexander Hamilton Award • Opened opportunities for Californians in 2009

  4. Economy • Neel Kashkari proposed reforms: • Bring big companies to California • Build a platform for companies to expand. • Redirect the funds of the high-speed train towards water storage. • Use california’s natural resources to create good energy jobs. • Reform business regulations that so that small businesses are able to grow and hire new employees.

Environment -More green jobs created -Harnessing natural resources (oil and gas) through fracking Fracking: the process of using liquid at a high pressure to extract oil from rocks -Wants to redirect money for the crazy train and put it towards water storage, fully utilize our reservoir capacity

Education K-12 Plan • redirect state funding directly to schools. • Principals, teachers, and parents can decide what their school needs • Eliminate the vast majority of the California Education Code • Encourage charter schools while ensuring that they are equal to traditional schools. Higher Education • Reform how California higher education is funded. • Mandate all UCs and CSUs to provide 20% of their offered courses online within 4 years. • Allow students across UC, CSU, and CCC to take for-credit world class UC and CSU professors. • Create a new financing system for STEM students, where free tuition is provided in a exchange for small interest in their future earnings.

Immigration/Border Security -Pro immigration, but for children’s safety he wants so send them back home if under 18 -Many children have been coming here illegally and we cannot let anyone come here in an uncontrolled way -His family are immigrants who went through the legal process and thinks immigrants should do the same
