Board of Directors (BOD) Continued… • Structure of BOD within your organization • Solely administrative (traditional nonprofit board role which entails fiduciary and administrative policy responsibility) • Specified clinical role? Reviewing cases directly or anonymously? Under what specified situations? • Active or working Board with direct operations responsibilities

Human Resources Continued… • Personnel Issues • Time suck! • If you do not address the issues will be forced • Consult: leadership, legal, HR • Clear policies for discipline • Employee Handbook • Know what to fight and what not to – law vs. pride • Prevention / Communications • Staff meetings • Staff development / retreats

Public Relations • Importance of Medical Community friends • Have relationships with key individuals in medical community: medical board, medical society, legislators, hospitals, referral sources, training programs, etc. • Nurture! • Use others in your program for help: perfect role for your BOD! • Awareness of key legislative matters and current medical community issues

  11. Public Relations Continued… • Advisory Committees • Connection to community referrals • Connection to medical community area of interest • Clarify role • Fundraising • Way to connect to medical community • Use of BOD • Know limits/expectations – be clear about this with BOD
