  2. Proposal Provenance A merry road, a mazy road, and such as we did tread. The night we went to Birmingham by way of Beachy Head. –G.K Chesterton Original concern: unfunded archives at SDSC et al Presented to SAB $2M effort to replicate data Stimulus bill lead to rethink $12M to produce dedicated hardware and software infrastructure for data replication across sites 2 year period, $9M for hardware, spent in first year $3M for software, spent over 2 years TeraGrid Quarterly Meeting, March'09

  3. Proposal Participants O ye'll tak' the high road and I'll tak' the low road,An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye; -Loch Lomond Six “hardware” sites: TACC, NICS, NCSA, PSC, NCAR, IU, each would provide 10 PB capacity for data replicated from other sites over next 4 years Those six plus SDSC form “software” sites: multiple approaches to replication; shaken out over first year By default, all new data written to an archive will be replicated at another consortium member, so that it is stored at two separate sites.
