  1. Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero on Fox News November 18, 2008 Jazzy explicitly makes the connection between her concern about the auto bailout and alternative energy sources. Shari’s fieldnotes from 11/27/08 In our whole group discussion, I asked Jazzy what she had been talking to Leroy Harvey about because she had seemed so engaged in the conversation with him. I told Jazzy that it looked like she was having a very interesting conversation with LeRoy Brown and wondered what she was talking about and what she wanted to know more about. She said that she wanted to know more about the bailout. I asked her what about. She said that she wanted to know if he supports the bailout of the autofactories. I proceeded to ask her if she could make a connection between what we were talking about in Get City (like alternative energy and global warming) and the bailout and she immediately responded that she could. She said that some people didn’t think the auto industry was doing the right thing because they were making cars that used too much fuel, but there are cars that could use less fuel and go further like (I think she said 36 mpg). I asked her if she had any family members that worked for the auto industry and she said no. I then asked her where she had heard about all this. She said that she had heard Mayor VirgBernero (Lansing’s Mayor) on the news talking about the bailout. She said the guy who was talking with him asked VirgBernero what would keep the auto industry from taking all the money and not doing anything differently than they had before (i.e. make cars that used a lot of fuel). I told her those were great questions that she could pursue. She said she was interested in doing her psa on something about the auto industry and the bailout.
