  1. New L3Vision™ day/night vision capability Dr. Cliff Weatherup Programme Manager L3Vision e2v technologies http://l3vision.e2v.com

  2. The L3Vision™ digital L3C95EIA/CCIR 768x576 • The L3C95 is fitted with e2v’s latest EMCCD sensor • Automatic control manages performance at all light levels • Analogue and digital USB2.0 outputs • DSP image enhancement gives outstanding low light performance © e2v technologies limited

  3. Light Levels • Light levels are described in terms of scene illumination • Bright daylight is in the region of 105 –106 lux • Quarter moon has a scene illumination of 10-2 lux • Starlight gives a scene illumination of 10-3 lux • L3C95 performance from daylight to below starlight is shown in the following video clip © e2v technologies limited

  4. L3C95 Day/Night video If the videos on this slide do not self load, please double click on the image to initiate. © e2v technologies limited

  5. Technology Comparison • The next clip compares the L3C95 with three low light technologies • The previous generation L3C65 EMCCD camera • The benchmark Gen3 intensifier (Omni IV) in an ICCD camera • The benchmark Sony EX view sensor widely used in CCTV • The L3C95 is significantly better than the previous generation • The L3C95 is better than the Gen3 Omni IV at all light levels • The L3C95 and the Sony CCD are equivalent in daylight but the Sony is unusable below quarter moon © e2v technologies limited

  6. Daylight Comparison If the videos on this slide do not self load, please double click on the image to initiate. © e2v technologies limited

  7. Quarter Moon Comparison If the videos on this slide do not self load, please double click on the image to initiate. © e2v technologies limited

  8. Below Starlight Comparison If the videos on this slide do not self load, please double click on the image to initiate. © e2v technologies limited

  9. L3C95 Day/Night summary • CCD quality video in daylight • AGC gives smooth transition as light level changes • Noise management enhances overcast starlight • Digital control gives scenario specific optimisation © e2v technologies limited

  10. L3Vision™ and flashing overload If the video on this slide do not self load, please double click on the image to initiate. © e2v technologies limited

  11. L3Vision™ and intense overload If the videos on this slide do not self load, please double click on the image to initiate. © e2v technologies limited

  12. L3Vision™ and prolonged overload If the videos on this slide do not self load, please double click on the image to initiate. © e2v technologies limited

  13. L3C95 Summary Performance • Any light level, any overload, anytime • Undamaged by lights, illuminators, flashes or pyrotechnics • Imaging performance unchanged during life • Projected lifetime in excess of 30,000 hours © e2v technologies limited

  17. Conclusion • The technology is well characterised and understood • L3Vision™ gives CCD performance in daylight and ICCD performance at night without using an intensifier • It is a robust solid state solution for all light levels • It has the potential to extend operational capability • It is currently being deployed on operational mobile platforms © e2v technologies limited
