  3. Introduction

  4. Introduction • The BBj ODBC driver is the latest ODBC driver offered by BASIS International • The BBj ODBC driver offers a great performance improvement over the older BASIS ODBC driver • The BBj ODBC driver is used for third party applications (such as Microsoft Excel or Access) to access BASIS data (I.E. MKEYED files) • To run the BBj ODBC driver, you need a BBj license (you no longer need a specific ODBC license)

  5. Download

  10. Enterprise Manager Setup

  11. Enterprise Manager Setup • In order to create a new data source, we first have to setup the data source in the Enterprise Manager • Launch the Enterprise Manager by clicking on Enterprise Manager from the BBj folder (from the BASIS folder) • The default login/password is: admin/admin123

  12. Enterprise Manager Setup (con’t) • More information on attaching or adding a new database to the Enterprise Manger found here:http://www.basis.com/onlinedocs/documentation/b3odbc/managing_databases.htm • The list of databases appears in the bottom left portion of the Enterprise Manager, and should look similar to the image on the right hand side (for BBj installs at rev 8.xx or higher)

  13. Adding a Data Source

  14. Adding a Data Source • To add a data source, go to the ODBC administration page • This is generally found in Windows by going to:Control Panel -> Admin Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC) • Alternatively, the ODBC administration section can be found here:C:\Windows\system32\odbcad32.exe

  15. Adding a Data Source (con’t) • First, click on the “Add...” button • Then, chose the BBj ODBC driver • Note, do not select the BASIS ODBC driver

  16. Adding a Data Source (con’t) • Create a name and a description for the data source • In the server field, enter the name of the server running the Enterprise Manager where the database is defined • The database field needs to be specified exactly how it appears in the Enterprise Manager • The login and password is the login and password used to log into the Enterprise Manager

  17. Adding a Data Source (con’t) • More information on adding a data source can be found on the BASIS documentation webpage:http://www.basis.com/onlinedocs/documentation/b3odbc/create_sysr_user_ds_winodbc_admin.htm

  18. Viewing Data Excel demo
