  1. Welcome! Find a seat for now. Please take a piece of notebook paper and fill out the following information on the lines. Your First and Last Names. The name of your parent(s) or guardian(s). Your address. Your phone numbers- cell and home. Your email and your parent/guardian’s email. The extra curricular activities in which you are involved. One fun fact about you.

  2. Materials you will need for Wednesday!Write this down. • One composition Note Book • Wide Ruled Notebook Paper • Blue/Black Ink Pens. NO FUNKY COLORS! • One Plastic Folder with Pockets and Brads

  3. Mrs. Hammons’ Rules! • Be prepared for class when it begins. • Be prompt and professional at all times. • Be respectful to others. • Food, drink, and cell phone use is not permitted in the classroom.

  4. Office Referral and Late Work Policy Late Work Policy Grading Procedure for Mastery If a student receives a failing grade on an assignment or assessment, then the student MUST schedule and attend a tutorial session from the teacher who gave the assignment for a maximum grade of 70. This process shall be initiated BY THE STUDENT within 10 days of the posting of the failing grade by the teacher. The posting shall be made in the teacher’s electronic grade book that is accessible by students and their parents.

  5. Late Work Policy Continued Late Work All student work will be accepted and graded. If student work is late then the grade for that assessment will be deducted at a rate of 10 points per day late. Students who are absent from school shall be given one extra day per consecutive day absent to turn in school work, without the late point deduction rate applying. This procedure may be changed for specific assignments with campus administration permission, and prior written notice given to students and parents of the change when the assignment is given.

EOC / STAAR: What it means to you • How many EOC tests will be required for you to take to GRADUATE? • 5 : English 1, English 2, Biology, Algebra, U.S. History If you do not pass the EOC, you WILL see me next year in A.I. THAT you do NOT want. If you do not pass a CLASS you MUST: • Take a Credit Recovery Class (night and $$). • Retake the Class.

  7. What I Expect • Homework and Classwork turned in on time. • All students making 90 on the EOC, or BETTER. • Everyone works hard and well, doing their best, together when possible.

  9. In your groups, decide on who gets the following jobs: • Materials Handler. • Scribe. • Parliamentarian. (Makes sure all questions are addressed and group is on task.) • Speaker. (Will address class of the group’s ideas.)

  10. Social Contract Activity • How do you want to be treated by the teacher? • How do you want to be treated by others? • How do you think I (the teacher) want to be treated by you? • How do we treat each other when there is conflict?

  11. Who Am I? Activity • Essay introducing yourself to the class is due Tuesday, September 2nd. (300-500 words) Test Grade. • Circle Graph is due Tuesday, September 2nd. Daily Grade. • Create a cover for your Interactive Notebook. (Composition Notebook). This will be your visual aid when you briefly introduce yourself to the class NEXT Tuesday. Make a visual about what makes you, YOU: your name, your faves, the people you love, words to describe you, school spirit, your goals in life, and your gifts and talents. You are creating a notebook that will be a keepsake eventually.

  12. Who AM I? Activity Write a 300-500 word essay, using a Circle Graph to organize and plan your essay introducing who you are to the class. Choose 3-4 items below to discuss in your essay: • 5 Words that describe you and why they do. • 3 Things that are important to you and why. • Special Friends and Family that influence your life and how they have done so. • What you want to do with your life and any plans you have made to accomplish it. • Music or Art that describes you or has meaning for you and why. • What you are looking forward to most in school this year and why. • 3-4 Interesting Facts about you with explanations.
