  1. Pet Show Wednesday 20th June Strawberries, Pimms and ice cream will be available at our Pet Show so do mark this date in your diary. Doors open at 5.30 p.m. and categories for judging will include lots of caged pets and even cuddly toys. Judging of dogs will take place from 6.15 p.m. There will also be beef burgers and sausages, so you could even eat your tea here. Entry forms will be given out nearer the event. Head Lice Several parents have reported problems with head lice recently. Please check your child’s hair during the holidays to help us to minimise this problem. We do have a leaflet in the office provided by the school nursing team so please ask for one in order to be sure of the best way to deal with these nuisance visitors. New Teacher I am pleased to let you know that we have appointed a Miss Isanna Hyatt to work as a job share partner with Mrs Giles from September. Miss Hyatt is an experienced teacher, having taught locally for a number of years. She has also taught with us as a supply teacher. We look forward to welcoming her in September, but she will meet the children in her class prior to the summer holiday. Staunton Times Olympic Torch Day We all had an excellent day last Thursday watching the Olympic torch pass the school and following this with a day of activities planned by Class 4. To see pictures of the day go to our school web site: www.stauntoncorse.ik.org/ and look on the Olympics 2012 page. Comments on the day would be appreciated by pupils and parents alike on our web site guest book. Staunton & Corse C of E Academy 31/05/2012 1

  2. Staunton Times Maths competition Four of our Year Six pupils along with Mr Jones were unable to relax following our exciting Olympic Torch day as we were booked to compete in the Maths 24 competition held at Tibberton School that afternoon. Emma Harley, Megan Rayner, Anya Teague and Daisy Walker did very well to achieve the runners up slot – 2 more correct answers would have secured victory. I was amazed at their stamina – well done girls! Gloucestershire County Tennis Finals Ethan Adams, Sarah Bilsby, Oscar Parr and Megan Vaughan have won a place to compete in the County Tennis Final at Oxstalls tennis centre following a mixed tennis competition at Newent School. We wish them the best of luck on the day. Kwik Cricket The cricket team of Chloe Searle/Bryn Adams/Jack Blackwell/Georgia Bloxham/Elliot Finch/Adam Gillett/Joshua Kell/Jack Matthews//Cameron Oakey and Justin Wills did well last Friday in the Forest of Dean area competition. They achieved a place in the semi-finals, but narrowly lost to the eventual winning team. An enjoyable, competitive afternoon was spent by all. INSET Day Children return to school on Tuesday 12th June. I do hope that you have a good break with your families enjoying either the Jubilee celebrations or your holiday destination. Bags 2 School You should today have received a bag for our regular Bags 2 School collection. You can fill this with Adults’ and Children’s Clothing, Bedding, Soft Toys, Paired Shoes, Hats, Belts and Handbags but please do not bring these bags to school until 13th June . You may also fill any type of bag that you have if you wish. Jennie Dwight - Headteacher 31/05/2012 2
