  1. Hello, my name is Jeff Hajek. I am the author of “Whaddaya mean I gatto be Lean?” I appreciate giving me a few minutes from your valuable time to speak with you about the cause and effect diagram. Let’s start up and clearance something up!

  2. Cause and effect diagram goes a couple of other names;One is Ishikawa Diagram after Mr. Ishikawa either invented it and popularizing it. It depends from who you listen.The other is “Fish Bone Diagram” of the obvious reason the structure looks like fish bones.

  3. So, how this tool work? Well, you start up a problem that you’re facing and write the effect at the right side of the paper. Alternatively, you may be doing this on a white board or bunch of paper that you have to hit on the wall, if you are using these tools as a part of the group project.

  4. Your next step is to draw long horizontal line to back bone of the fishbone diagram. Then you are going to draw spines of the back bone. These spines provide grouping the causes that you’ll add to the chart. The standard version of sharp- floored fish bone; we’ll see six spines cross pining six M’S.

  5. The six M’s are materials, methods, machines, measurements, Mother Nature and manpower. You might however see manpower switched out with more gender natural word.

  6. In the office you likely to see six P’s; people, process, policy, plant, program, product. These category mere vary. The whole goal is to start organizing your thinking and provide some structure to the problem solving process. Making categories helps in two ways. One; it helps you improve idea generation. Systems simply help you to get more cause. Two; it helps when you move into the prove step. When the causes are grouped, you’ll see the threats and opportunities more widely. Of each of these spines, we draw horizontal lines to record the causes.

  7. Let’s talk for a minute about how you come up with ideas.Most ideas come from either brainstorming sessions or some sort of waste talk. Where you observe the process in working environment, where you record the causes of the problems, sometimes the brainstorming is not separated lane added to cause and effect. Other times, it is done directly out of the fishbone. We are working on a project; you might enable to realize actually there are two effects. In that case, you will simply do two different diagrams. So; let’s move out an example.

  8. Instead of look in this small word prospective, let’s look a problem we all face every day; “getting work on time”. Many process for leaning accuracy management to be effective. It is hard to getting work on time with the clock that is several. That runs too fast or slow.

  9. The manpower category is basically human error when process exists but is not followed. Often the reason of process is not followed… That was a good one!

  10. Snow how it affects your travel time. In your company, things like power averages, humidity or host other environmental conditions play a role in problems.

  11. Machines are simply the tools of your trade. Your car is most obvious machine that you are late to get to work on time.

  12. Problems with methods are often seen as human error. In truth, that processes are more likely to be caliber.

  13. Materials plays a big role in manufacturing, it doesn’t play as big as role in getting to work. If however, you inadvertently chuck down some decaf by mistake, you might drift back of the couch and be late for work.When you are doing a cause and effect diagram, you can keep drilling down as long as you like. Something for root cause and affect analysis thinks when your car broke down or why. You drop decaf by mistake and add those in.

  14. Just a few overall tips: First; don’t get interrupt upon exactly where the cause goes. Just quickly think about where action likely fit and put it there. You can always move it later.

  15. Second; leave some space if you are doing this as a team exercise. And never teams work out evenly. Some affects some materials centric, some of cause machine failure. You might not realize this until exercises on the way. Cause and effect diagram can’t get sloppy and hurry.At this point, now you are looking a finished fishbone diagram that will help you move out and improving your process.

  16. So, now let’s do quick rap up this presentation. One thing that most people forget is learning the tool only to first step. It is use my facilitator leading an exercise, the tutorial often gets filed away until next bigger that. I think that’s a waste. Put this tool of use routinely whenever is needed. In my experience, people who regularly use tool such as this one are they engaged satisfied, regardless position in the organization. But even in the future some other guide, I still want to stress this point “Lean works best with satisfied employees” who see they can personally get out of a lean.
