  15. The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the Lord tests the hearts. Proverbs 17:3

  16. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, 1 Peter 1:6-7

  17. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ 1 Peter 1:6-7

  18. For You, O God, have tested us; You have refined us as silver is refined. … We went through fire and through water; But You brought us out to rich fulfillment. Psalm 66:10-12

  20. “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. Matthew 6:24

  21. Before the Lord God made man upon the earth He first prepared for him by creating a world of useful and pleasant things for his sustenance and delight. In the Genesis account of the creation these are called simply `things.’ AW Tozer (1897-1963) – Blessing of Possessing Nothing Pastor, Prophet in W. Virginia, Chicago & Canada

  22. Before the Lord God made man upon the earth He first prepared for him by creating a world of useful and pleasant things for his sustenance and delight. In the Genesis account of the creation these are called simply `things.' They were made for man's uses, but they were meant always to be external to the man and subservient to him. In the deep heart of the man was a shrine where none but God was worthy to come. Within him was God; without, a thousand gifts which God had showered upon him. AW Tozer (1897-1963) – Blessing of Possessing Nothing Pastor, Prophet in W. Virginia, Chicago & Canada

  23. Our woes began when God was forced out of His central shrine and `things' were allowed to enter. Within the human heart `things' have taken over. This is not a mere metaphor, but an accurate analysis of our real spiritual trouble. AW Tozer (1897-1963) – Blessing of Possessing Nothing Pastor, Prophet in W. Virginia, Chicago & Canada

  24. Our woes began when God was forced out of His central shrine and `things' were allowed to enter. Within the human heart `things' have taken over. This is not a mere metaphor, but an accurate analysis of our real spiritual trouble. The pronouns `my' and `mine' look innocent enough in print, but their constant and universal use is significant. They express the real nature of the old Adamic man better than a thousand volumes of theology could do. They are verbal symptoms of our deep disease. AW Tozer (1897-1963) – Blessing of Possessing Nothing Pastor, Prophet in W. Virginia, Chicago & Canada

  25. The way to deeper knowledge of God is through the lonely valleys of soul poverty and abnegation of all things. The blessed ones who possess the Kingdom are they who have repudiated every external thing and have rooted from their hearts all sense of possessing. AW Tozer (1897-1963) – Blessing of Possessing Nothing Pastor, Prophet in W. Virginia, Chicago & Canada

  26. Abraham’s Test • 1) Subject Matter of Test – what? • 2) Purpose of the Test – why? • Proves Abraham’s Heart • Purifies Abraham’s Heart

  27. Abraham’s Test • 1) Subject Matter of Test – what? • 2) Purpose of the Test – why? • 3) Passing of Test – how? • By Faith • Concluding…God is able • Concluding…God…fearing God, He is 1st

  28. Abraham’s Test • 1) Subject Matter of Test – what? • 2) Purpose of the Test – why? • 3) Passing of Test – how? • 4) Outcome of Test • Passed the test – heard God’s approval • Put in a place where God could bless • Received Isaac back…

  29. Abraham possessed nothing. AW Tozer (1897-1963) – Blessing of Possessing Nothing Pastor, Prophet in W. Virginia, Chicago & Canada

  30. Abraham possessed nothing. Yet was not this poor man rich? Everything he had owned before was still his to enjoy: sheep, camels, herds, and goods of every sort. He had also his wife and his friends, and best of all he had his son Isaac safe by his side. He had everything, but he possessed nothing. There is the spiritual secret. There is the sweet theology of the heart which can be learned only in the school of renunciation. AW Tozer (1897-1963) – Blessing of Possessing Nothing Pastor, Prophet in W. Virginia, Chicago & Canada

  34. for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:11-13
