  4. What’s Old • Capstone projects require the student to use: • geography • history • economics • government

  5. What’s New • The core disciplines are used to interpret the past and plan for the future. • During the school year the students will complete at least three capstone projects. (National Geography Standards 17 and 18, p. 179 and 181)

  6. What’s a Capstone Project • Investigation linking historical and contemporary issues • Capstone project proposes a plan for the future based on the research

  7. Elements of Capstone Projects • Use technology • Collect data • Develop a product or performance • Apply content from the core disciplines • Demonstrate ability to participate in public discourse • Make reasoned decisions • Demonstrate citizen involvement • Use methods of inquiry • Compose persuasive civic essays using reasoned argument

  8. Contemporary Investigation Topics • Global climate change • Globalization • Migration • Human-environmental interactions • Natural disasters

  9. What is Moodle? • Moodle is a great open-source software program provided to us that allows us to easily organize our teaching materials. • http://moodle.org/login/index.php

  10. What is iLearn? • The iLearn program is Dearborn Public Schools’ installation of Moodle to enable our students to access our coursework from any computer. They all have accounts provided through our district.
