  3. Biography Gospel of John is one of 4 gospel accounts

  4. Author The Apostle John

  5. To whom written John wrote to the world – his writing was a supplement to the revealed testimony of the other gospel writers

  6. Why it was written Jn. 20:30-31 [30] And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book:

  7. [31] But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

  8. John writes to convince men that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of God --- John cites witness after witness

  9. Outstanding features of the book John gives the descent of Jesus from God Over ½ the book is not found in other gospel accounts He records, for the most part, events that took place in Judea

  10. He mentions very few incidents that happened in Galilee Over ½ his material covers events and teaching of Jesus’ last days on earth Only John covers the 4 Passovers during Jesus’ earthly ministry

  11. John records Jesus’ longest prayer (Jn. 17) John proves the Deity of Christ by his works and his words

  14. John 1 Word became flesh; the ministry of John the Baptist, the first disciples and their testimony

  15. Jn. 1:11- Jesus was rejected by the Jewish Nation [11] He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

  16. John 2 First miracle; Cleansing the temple

  17. Jn. 2:5 - We too, must do whatever He tells us to do [5] His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

  18. John 3 New birth, John the Baptist's work and teaching

  19. Jn. 3:17 – Christ came to earth to save us and not condemn us [17] For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

  20. John 4 Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus heals a nobleman’s son

  21. Jn. 4:24 – We must worship God in Spirit and in Truth [24] God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Jn. 5:28-29 – Both good & evil shall come from the grave – at the same time –when Jesus returns [28] Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice, [29] And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

  28. Jn. 7:46 – No man has ever spoken as Christ spoke [46] The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.

  29. John 8 Woman caught in adultery, Jesus the Light of the world, “If ye believe not in me ye shall die in your sins”, “The truth shall make you free”, the Jew’s father (Abraham or the devil), “I am”

  30. Jn. 8:12 – No one, following Christ, walks in darkness [12] Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

  31. John 9 Healing of the man born blind, aftermath of the miraculous healing

  32. Jn. 9:40 – Those who refuse to see Truth, are truly blind [40] And some of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

  33. John 10 Parable of the sheepfold, Jesus the Good Shepherd, Jesus rejected by the Jews

  34. Jn. 10:10 – Jesus brings to us abundant living [10] The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly (Spiritual life – eternal life)

  35. Conclusion Jn. 1:14 [14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
