  2. Supernova: The explosive death of a massive star that causes a shell of gas to expand rapidly and glow • Stellar Nursery: A large cloud of gas and dust that gives birth to stars. Also called a stellar nebula. • Black Hole: An object whose gravity is so strong that not even light can escape from it • White Dwarf: a small, very dense star that is typically the size of a planet • Red Supergiant: the largest stars in the universe, very large stars that are bright, but have lower surface temperatures. • Planetary Nebula: a ring-shaped nebula formed by an expanding shell of gas around an aging star • Red Giant: a large star that is bright but has a low surface temperature • Star: A large ball of gas that creates and emits its own radiation. • Neutron Star: The imploded core of a massive star produced by a supernova explosion • Proto-Star: a massive object that forms out of the collapsing gas in a stellar nursery but has not started nuclear fusion
