  4. What Changes are in the Works? • Federal Level • EPA is developing a PVI Guidance • ITRC is developing a broader PVI Guidance • State Level • MDNR has compiled its own stakeholder group

  5. In 2002, EPA Drafted a Vapor Intrusion Guidance Developed Mainly for Chlorinated Sites Primary Difference between CVI & PVI Biodegradation Petroleum Specific VI Guidance needed

EPA Approach • Developed & Analyzed Empirical Database • Established Inclusion Distances • Vertical (6 ft for dissolved, 15 ft for LNAPL) • Lateral/Horizontal (projection/extrapolation) • Selected Concentrations Indicating LNAPL • Groundwater 5 ppm Benzene & 30 ppm TPH • Soil 10 ppm Benzene & 250 ppm TPH

Status of EPA PVI Guidance • 1st Draft Released March 2012 – Limited Circulation for Review • 2nd Draft Released June 2012 – Limited Circulation for Review • Final Draft for External Review - April 17,2013 • Comments Due by May 24, 2013 • ASTSWMO LUST Task Force is taking the lead on assembling comments

  9. Interstate Technology & Regulatory Council(ITRC) Workgroup • Developing Broader PVI Guidance to Include • Other types of sites (ASTs, Refineries, MGP, heating oil) • Investigations & Analyses • Modeling • Remediation/Mitigation

  10. What is Missouri Doing? • PVI Stakeholder Group, contemplating similar changes • 2 of the Members are also on ITRC PVI Team

  11. What Changes Might we see in Missouri? • Target Levels will Consider Advection & Biodegradation • Screening Criteria Based upon Concepts of Inclusion Zones/Exclusion Zones • Delineation
